What higher profile fights are available for him at 160? Canelo? 160 is such a weak division there are no higher profile fights out them for him.

 

That is just not true especially concerning Cotto. Most boxing fans consider him a fraud & a diva today . He beat a crippled Martinez to win the lineal middleweight title but then claims he is not a middleweight so he wont defend against GGG.
I saw Cotto's first 2 pro fights from ringside & followed him up until the Margarito fight. Margarito LEGITIMATEL:Y beat him into submission. Then Cotto Whined & :|:| he was beaten unfairly.
He knows he wasn't. He waited till Margarito's eye got permanently damaged then agreed to a rematch. A repeat of Fight 1 was looking certain so the NY doc stopped the fight not to save Margarito's eye but to save Cotto the embarrassment of QUITTING AGAIN!!!! I lost all respect I had for Cotto & I hope Canelo makes him quit on his knees again

 

May 2 proved Mayweather was & still is a coward:think He was in the ring with a man he claimed he was going to knock out. Manny Pacquaio. Pacquaio was seriously injured & fighting in pain yet all Mayweather did was run & hold & rely on Vegas officials to see he got the decision Which when you look at the scorecards 118-110 etc they came across for him alright

Lee and whoever the PBC pushes for a GGG fight. Which may sound odd at the moment, but Al is keeping that WBA underbelt in his back pocket for a reason.

But thats why people think that GGG will in fact move to 168, relatively soon, but not right away. Theres still enough business at 160, but not so much that he can keep growing there forever.

Assuming he keeps winning of course, which I think too many people take for granted - anything can happen - but with that assumption for the sake of discussion I think opponent list goes like this:

DL - obviously

Either Johnson/O Kane winner or Canelo , depending on whether Floyd retires. Even with WBC mandate, I'd bet money Oscar talks Tom into pushing fight to Summer or even Fall for wide-open PPV date, because it makes financial sense. In this instance GGG will keep busy with his IBF mando provided he beat DL.

Lee/BJS winner. Especially if its Lee, if GGG beat Canelo on PPV Lee wouldnt sit around and risk his belt fighting 300k defenses, he would go straight for GGG payday.

PBC champ, probably Jacobs

Then 168, unless some hotshot at 160 appears that gets everyone talking. Thats 5 more fights at 160, unless there is a Canelo rematch which would be entirely possible.

Probably DeGale first, provided he still holds belt. Ward could be first, but he is so difficult to deal with, I think that when K2 starts thinking about permanent jump to 168 that Matchroom and Al will come up with a better offer and a better publicity push.

Next point if May-GGG happened at 54 I'd def tune in but, here's the thing GGG's entire career when it's all said and done probably won't rank higher than Mayweather's run at 130 alone. Unless he actually takes on legit opponents.

The Monroes and Lemieux and Geales are on the same level as Mayweather's worst opponent in years Berto and right now if all retired Berto would rank higher. That's why a lot of fans say he should do something.

You are so insanely biased, but I doubt you typed all that with a straight face. The only Floyd foes outside Manny in recent years on the level of Lemieux are Maidana and Canelo.

Like Lemieux, Maidana also had losses - but was a better fighter when he faced Floyd than he was when he lost.

The fighters you talk about rising in weight, did so because they started so small and grew out to their natural adult weights. Trying to say that Broner is above GGG is something that is rightfully going to garner much scorn.

 

Bro if Monroe, Geale, Lemiuex, and Berto retired today Berto would rank the highest I don't think that's really debatable. Lemiuex is on the Ortiz, Berto level right now.

As far as the Broner comment I can trade his name with too many of GGG's contemporaries and the argument would still be valid. Close fight's or not D.Garcia right now is more HOF/P4P than GGG.

What am I biased again it can't be Russian fighters because I'm a huge fan of guys like Kovalev, Lomachenko, can't be partially Asian fighters **** I'm big on Donaire think he's arguably an ATG fighter. I find GGG entertaining and catch his fight's before a guy like Broner so what is it.

Lemiuex's best win is a guy who got dropped 7 times by Quillin. I'll give GGG credit for unifying titles, but don't try to sell me that Lemiuex is some great fighter. Could GGG potentially become a great fighter sure and if he does I'll give him credit, but right now he's not
Mayweather is considered an ATG before he even got to 135, GGG may never be considered an ATG at any weight based on his current trajectory.

Hell, even Broner can't fight below 140 without starving himself to death, and he's a midget.

Guys like Cotto, 33 yo, can drop down to 150 maybe, if it were for huge money, but he know how much it wuold affect his body. He'd be completely drained and worthless.

Same for Canelo, and it seems like Quillin might be struggling to maintain 160. IDK....mighta just been lazy training for the Lee fight after the absense. We'll see going forward.

But yeah. A man continues to grow into his frame well into his early 30s. Even then, as testosterone and serotonin levels change, his body could continue to add bulk into his late 30s.

Guys like Canelo are draining themselves to avoid a situation or wait for payday at a lower wieght.
Canelos ship came in when Cotto beat Martinez.

After this payday, he's moving N to 160 permanently soas he can make money vs the likes of Lee/GGG/Murata,Kyrtov, Jacobs, Quillin, Harrison etc.

Those aren't "higher profile fights", besides Canelo. 160 is such an incredibly weak division that it's probably best for him to move up to 168. I dont think Ward is "so" difficult to deal with, it's funny how GGG is so easy to deal with until it's a guy that most people have beating him. GGG nuthuggers use the excuse of him using it as leverage, but it's clear to anyone it's just an excuse to not fight. GGG is nearly in his mid 30's, and he hasnt fought anyone remotely close to an A level fighter, if he retires today he's nowhere near a HOF, if Ward retires today he has Froch, Kessler, Abraham etc on his resume and he goes to the HOF. Ward doesn't need GGG, GGG needs Ward to prove his true value. If he doesn't like the 50/50 Start off at like 65/35, and keep going up from there, asking for a catchweight he knows Ward cant make isn't leverage, GGG and his team are just giving his fans an excuse to say Ward is ducking GGG! he doesn't want to go to a catchweight he cant make.

:deal they'll fight anyone from 154-168 except the guy who most people have beating him. I actually slightly gave Ward the edge since Ward has been inactive, he's been dealing with injuries etc, but confidence is a huge factor I take in when I make picks and it's clear as day that GGG doesn't have the confidence to go up against Ward.

 

He has a point? That 95% of the success is because of Lemiuex? Come on. That's no valid point at all. What's he going to say next? That Willie Monroe sold 95% of the tickets at The Forum? It just about as good of a point.

 

The problem is the bar is set so low they will make any mumber sound like a success.
