If Hagler fought Spinks, would Spinks have stopped Hagler?

A question. Would Spinks have stopped iron chinned Marvin Hagler?

It depends on how Hagler's power translates.

I think Spinks would get him.

agreed. personally, if I had to put money on it, i'd say a late round stoppage that hagler vehemently protests

No. I believe Hagler would have been sticking and moving laterally, like he did against Briscoe, and he only had an inch less in reach than Michael, so he could box effectively from long range in dealing with this situation. What evidence there is clearly suggests he had a Toney type chin. Beyond that, his discipline and dedication were considerably superior to what James had. Marv was a very different kind of southpaw to the hard charging Marvin Johnson. He had the best southpaw jab of all time, and wouldn't have gone after Michael like he did Hearns.

I kind of think he'd have stopped Hagler. Michael KO'd durable guys with 1 punch at lightheavy, and at 5'9 he'd be prime height for Michael to drill him with his awkward uppercuts and hooker-cuts.

Marvin would be stopped on his feet though, with Michael flurrying at him with hard punches. Marvin would then turn and punch the ref out for stopping it.

Spinks would win rather easily, but I'm not sure if he gets the knockout. He was every bit as good as Hagler, and obviously a much bigger man.

p4p i'm not sure where to rank spinks but marvin, great as he was, was a smallish middleweight often coming in around 156. someone above said his size makes him perfect for michael's awkward hooks and uppercuts and i agree. spinks had that ****ed up, herky jerky movement which would throw marvin off and the ability to counter with that overhand right consistently. i see a cerdan/zale style knockout, with marvin on his feet but taking too much punishment

I think that if both those Klitschkos each held an arm of Marvin Hagler

and Ray Mercer held up his chin with both hands,

and the Mighty Thor swung that Hammer of Odin at Hagler's chin,

    ...Hagler's knees might sag.

(But I wouldn't bet my fluffiest pillow on it.)
