If Hagler fought Spinks, would Spinks have stopped Hagler?

    Depends when.

Closer to the Leonard fight and closer to Mike's move up, I'd say Spinks probably does get it done(84-85). If he fought the heavyweight Spinks instead of Leonard or Mugabi, he gets pasted.

The more primed Hagler is (IMO, 80-83), the less likely I feel that outcome becomes.

Depends how Hagler fights. If he wants to give himself a chance he gets stopped, if he goes into survival mode he might be ok.

We don't really know the depths of Haglers chin. Maybe he was borderline invulnerable.

I doubt he gets KNOCKED OUT COLD, but I bet the ref stops this one. He'd be in for a long night against Spinks

I doubt it , if Hagler was hurt by Spinks Jinx ,I think he would have the mechanics to survive,Spinks wasn't exactly Dempsey in his approach.

Very probably. Marvin's iron chin would have prevented a straight ko,but Spinks would have marked Marvin up pretty badly with his harder punching, and Hagler would have been cut up late in the fight.
Marvin was a legit middleweight and would n't have been able to handle the move up in weight.

Horrible fight for Hagler. He would be forced to push the fight, and he was far more comfortable as a counter puncher. Probably Hagler comes in about 170 at the absolute most.

I think his extra speed as the smaller man would allow him to survive but he'd have to eat some big right hand counters along the way. Think Spinks wins a competitive decision.

At what fight in his 60+ bout career, did you ever see Hagler fight in survival mode?

He wouldn't have been stopped on his back, probably on his feet, with the ref stopping it.

In what fight in his 60+ bout career did you ever see him have to? Spinks is a whole different kettle of fish.

Bearing your comments in mind, you have me leaning toward he fights to win and gets ko'd/stopped.

you're obviously not thinking very clearly

you mean HAGLER was a different kettle of fish. guys like Celestine, Wassaja, were never much. Johnson, Lopez & Sutherland were retreads. It was a weak division in the wake of destruction left behind by Mustafa Muhammad & Saad Muhammad

Besides that, Qawi did no fighting, literally HANDING Spinks the fight.

    If you're 6-2 and you cant stop a guy that's 5-6 what's that say?

Sure he looks great battering people like David Sears. Who wouldnt? But bring in some better fighters, even shopworn ones like Eddie Davis and the fight becomes much closer

No way he stops Hagler who, is/was a much more versatile & better defensive fighter than Braxton/Qawi who did NOTHING

In fact, Hagler at 90% would probably stop Spinks. My guess is Hagler finds the weak spot in Mike's chin, wobbles him, then follows it up for a 13th round tko

Hagler was not a big middle weight and would struggle with Spink's size and power. Having said that I think Hagler could out hustle him over 12 rounds but at some point Spinks would nail him.

Interestingly, I don't think Hagler ever seriously considered moving up in weight.
