If Hatton beats Floyd, what historic upsets would it rank with?

not that major an upset. hatton may be the underdog but he's definitely a live one.

 

Whilst Ricky is given very little chance in many quarters, i suspect many would agree that he has more chance then was pre-conceived for

Buchanan vs Laguna 1st

Stracey against Napoles (In Mexico)

Honeygan Vs Curry

Laing Vs Duran

or going back Turpin Vs Robinson

(and Frankie Randell vs Chavez 1st springs to mind as a non-brit upset)

And we all know what happened in those matches

I just hope cuts do not feature in the ultimate result.

As you've pointed out it wouldn't be the craziest of upsets, because although PBF is picked favorite by many and bookies (def. myself included), there are many who pick Hatton to win. So I would see it as similiar to the upset Pavlik just pulled on Taylor, where experts and bookies had the champ but a shitload of others saw the upset coming. I still say Floyd has an easy ride to the bank with this one.

 

I would think that Hatton is a 2-1 underdog, 3-1 at most so not too big of an upset.

 

I personally dont see how Floyd CAN beat Hatton, Ive seen Hattons last 25 or so fights live and replays of Floyds last 15 or so and his last 7 live, to me it seems obvious that Hatton will win.I put it down to the American media just overrating their fighters.

 

Same here. It won't be an upset at all when Hatton wins. I'm expecting it. Most people don't realise that Hatton is the first top 10 pound for pound opponent (at the time of the fight) Mayweather's fought. Castillo, Corrales, Gatti, DLH were not top 10 when Floyd fought them. Kostya Tszyu was ranked no lower than 3 when Hatton beat him. Floyd's number 1 ranking flatters him when he's never beaten anyone in the top 10. So no, Hatton beating Mayweather will not be an upset. It will just upset the Floyd nuthuggers!

 

The upset would be similar in scale to:

Duran - Leonard I
Honeyghan - Curry
Lewis - Ruddock :think

Overall, the fight draws most comparisions with Duran - Leonard I although obviously a level or 2 below those greats. Mayweather should learn from Leonard and box his way to an easy victory.

this fight reminds me of calzaghe-lac in that most of the brits pick hatton an everyone else picks mayweather

if hattons wins (which he wont) it wouldnt be huge seeing as hes beat castillo an tyszu and is 40+ fights unbeaten

 

Lol great example to back up your point, you pick a good fighter NOWHERE near Calzaghes level that the whole of the USA said was going to smash Calzaghe and ended up getting the biggest whipping maybe in big fight history, so yes I agree with you Hatton-Mayweather will remind me of that fight when Floyd gets the **** knocked out of him! :good

 

Right behind Pacs KO of MAB...Maybe a bit further down the list since Hatton is a World champion & PAC was not. But no one really expects Hatton to win so it's gonna be shocking if he pulls the win out. I think Hatton has a good chance....only b/c Floyd doesn't seem to be taking this fight seriously.....especially with his dancing tv show.:roll:

Let's not forget that Hatton is the unbeaten jr. wleterweight champion of the world, and that he's coming off of a victory that ranks as one of his career-best results. Plus, he's a consensus Top p4p fighter.

Mayweather is a clear favorite in this fight...but, he's hardly an overwhelming favorite...and I'd be surprised to see the odds go higher than 4 to 1 for this fight. That's hardly the 20-1 'dog that Rahman was against Lewis, or the 42-1 'dog that Douglas was against Tyson.

It would likely be around the scale of Hopkins-Trinidad...and that's only if Hatton is somehow able to produce a dominant performance.
