His resume is better than Calzaghe's currently is, no? Tszyu is a lot better than Calzaghe's best win. Beating Pac would also be a lot better than Calzaghe's best win. Hatton will have beaten the P4P#1 and the number 2 at LWW in his last two fighters, whereas Calzaghe's last two wins were against a shot fight and a middle aged man. Hatton would have fought P4P#3 Tszyu, P4P#10 Castillo, P4P#1 Pac, P4P#1 Mayweather. Calzaghe's only fought one P4P fighter and went life and death with him.
Hard to say how much Tzsyu had left when he faced Hatton..cuz he never fought again. Castillo was shot and a natural lightweight. Pacman is so small it must take some gloss from the win....It would be like Calzaghe beating Margo.
Calzaghe-Hopkins life and death?? I don't think so. Watch the fight, he won it by three clear rounds, would have won it by more if Hopkins hadn't been spoiling and cheating in the last three rounds. Hopkins was looking to get a win by a DQ, or by getting points taken off Calzaghe. It wasn't even close. Hatton has the best win with Tzsyu, but overall Calzaghe's record is stronger. Hatton was clearly exposed against PBF, and I can't see any fighter between 160-175 doing that to Calzaghe even at this late stage of his career. In fact, the only fighter I think has a chance of beating Calzaghe at present is Kessler. That's one rematch he'll definitely avoid!
They've had a similar amount of fights though, defending his shitty title for so long is irrelevant. I think Hatton has 7 away wins now as well, which helps give his resume an edge on Calzaghe's. Is Calzaghe's best win over Hopkins? Tszyu is a better win. Pac would be a better win. The way Castillo was dispatched of means that is close to being as good of a win. By the way, I think Calzaghe's a much better fighter than Hatton, but Hatton could easily end up with the better record.
Mayweather beat Hatton handily, but Calzaghe, for whatever reason(s), didn't fight his "Mayweather" in their primes so I don't think, when you're comparing Hatton and Calzaghe, the Mayweather fight is as big a knock against Hatton it would have been if Calzaghe had of faced RJJ somewhere near his prime.
I would say yes, like you say Hatton has fought a lot of P4P guys and with Pac being the clear, IMO, #1 at the moment, a win over him for Hatton would be absolutely top class. Although I still think Calzaghe fans could make a decent argument that there man is "better". Personally, whatever Hatton has done or goes on to do, it is clear to me that he has more of a fighters heart than stay at home Joe.
Castillo was shot to **** in the worst possible way and Kostya was ****ed too. Wonder what would have happened if Hatton had fought the guys in thier primes? He loss pretty ****ing bad to PBF in a total ownage. Hatton should be rated on beating guys like Malinfaggi and Collazo who are decent top level fighters. Hatton is one of our best ever fighters but not quite as special has his fans try and make out.
Castillo had beaten Corrales not long before the Hatton fight though? I don't think Kostya was ****ed, he was still the man at 140, was he not?The only major difference I see between Hatton and Calzaghe's resume is that Hatton WANTS the big, career defining fights against the very best guys, whereas Joe is reluctant to leave his comfort zone, or at least he had been for much of his career. I don't know, I'm not that much of an expert on either mans resume, I just know as much as the next poster.
