If Hatton wins would you make him p4p #1?

He'll have beaten the man at 140 then the man at 147 who is currently p4p#1, all while being undefeated, of course he would become p4p#1, anyone saying otherwise is hating pure and simple, even the American media have admitted this will be the case if Hatton wins.

I'd have him as #1. Wins over the p4p no 1, and 3 (Mayweather and Tszyu) would be enough to get him there along with the decent wins he's had since the Tszyu fight.

To me, p4p is a list of the current best fighters in boxing, in the world...

Let us assume, reasonably, that PBF is currently the best in the world...would beating the best in the world at his preferred weight make you the best in the world? I would say not necessarily. This is because perhaps some other fighter would beat the best in the world too, and moreover, would beat you too, at your preferred weight....the reason why you and and him are currently not ranked p4p no1 is because the fighter ranked p4p no 1 would beat more of the top fighters around their ideal weight than you or the other guy who would beat you too would...thus explaining why he is p4p no 1 and you and the other guy are not...

(Do you guys remember my rankings riddle with A, B, C, D and E?)

I would say Ricky would have a very good claim to being the best fighter in the world if he beat Floyd, espcially since he would be fighting at a weight that disadvantages him and advantages his opponent, but his claim would be 100% secure only if he beat the other man around his weight-class who could possibly beat PBF - Cotto, who also happens to be very highly ranked p4p...in my view.

I would have to put Ricky in the top 2 p4p if he beat Floyd though...I cannot see how he could be lower than that...and I would rather make him top rather than second if it came down to it, but only if he beats Floyd "cleanly"...fair and square and by the spirit of the laws of boxing too!

BTW...I don't think it matters one jot NOW how good Tszyu was when Ricky beat him to deciding Ricky's p4p ranking...it mattered then, of course, but not now...p4p rankings, properly understood, are not a ranking of accomplishments or resumes...but an estimate of how good one is NOW (obviously on the basis of very recent performances and expected performance in the very near future)

Thing is, though...say Hatton beats PBF and Cotto beats Hatton - that in and of itself wouldn't necessarily make Cotto p4p no 1 in my book either...even if Cotto then beat PBF it wouldn't necessarily mean he was the best...even though he would have at least as good a claim as any...Cotto might have to beat the best p4p at a higher weight who is also highly ranked p4p to be undoubtedly the best...

I'd have great difficulty in rating him as the pound4pound no.1, simply because I don't believe he would even be the best welterweight.

    Would he beat;
    Cintron
    Marg
    Williams
    Cotto
    Shane

    ...I'm not so sure.

That didn't happen when Tarver beat Jones... It depends how far fighter "A" is down on the PFP list...

Fair enough - but I guess you are using Ring's rankings. I am using my own.

I probably would tie him up with Pac at #1. But when Pac destroys JMM, Pac gets #1.

I would. The only guys you could possibly rank above him are Calzaghe and Pac. A win over Mayweather>Kessler. Same with a win over shot Morales and Pac.

lol, how can he not be number 1, he's the undefeated ring champ at 140, with a win over a #2 or #3 p4p in koysta, and then moves up in weight to beat the #1 p4p fighter, if it doesn't make him p4p #1 it means you don't think that mayweather is #1 currently.

Why not? This fight is said to be all about the so-called P4P Championship between a recognized 147 pound Champion and a 140 pound Ring Mag Champion... I have 100% guarantee he would be rated nÂș1 if he beats the present best P4Per but he would have that status at risk in his next coupla fights against other top rated fighters. Hatton would become an undefeated WBC welterweight champion and having been the WBA 147 pound titlist and a 2 time IBF 140 pound title holder... Mayweather himself said that he is a rising star to be a mega-superstar if he beats the mega-superstar, so let it be, whateva...
