I'm not picking on you alone, because plenty on here have completely missed the point. The WHOLE POINT of p-4-p ratings are a subjective ranking given to world class fighters who compete in ALL the weight divisions and cannot, in the main, actually fight each other. BUT, when there is a rare occasion that they CAN fight each other, then just as if they were fighting for any other title, the winner is the winner and the title changes hands. Very simple really
I don't think it's as simple as that...for the reasons I set out in my previous, longish, post...I wasn't trying to argue that p4p rankings were somehow objective...although I did give that impression...damn! lol
Depends how convincingly he wins. *My first post here, been reading for a long time. Hello from a fellow boxing degenerate!
he's fighting pbf at welterweight. and anyway you don't have to win titles at loads of different weights to be p4p #1 hattons too small (short reach and height) to be that succesfull at bigger weights. p4p means if they were all the same weight who would be best.
I've reconsidered. If hatton wins he is #1, but if Pacquiao dominates Marquez, he takes the top spot.
Sounds reasonable, you know when I think about it level of competition and consistantly fighting top notch boxers really does not come into play as much as it should. If it did guys like Manny, Cotto, Hopkins would be ranked a bit higher in my opinion. I think Kelly Palvik has had a good stint KOing two strong fighters (Miranda & Taylor) to be champion of one of boxings most glorified divisions. Sure PBF, Hatton and JoeC are top fighters and deserve their positions on the P4p listings but I just feel their level of prime comp is not far better than that of the others mentioned above.
If Hatton wins. Calzaghe Pacquiao Hatton Mayweather Thats just how it should be. But I think Hatton and Pac could easily be interchangeable.
I'm not offended because that is exactly what I meant. Although I have never heard someone claim that the title changes hands if two top p4p fighters were to meet. I guess I can see that under specific circumstances it could happen but p4p usually requires a much slower ascent. I can't really remember any fighter that came from perhaps 5th to 1st in one fight regardless of the opponent. To me Hatton's skill set and style really don't transcend more than one or two weight classes before becoming a liability.
Excellent comment! I think Hatton is one of the hardest nosed men in boxing today. He's strong, determined and relentless though I feel he's a bit limited. There's nothing wrong with his traits though. Look at fighters like Tito and Tyson for example, both fighters had their limitations but still enjoyed huge success in boxing.
How is Calzaghe even ahead of Hatton at the moment? A win over Mayweather puts Hatton streets ahead of Calzaghe.
If he wins cenvincely yes. Hatton would have beaten the number 1 pound for pound and is in the top 10 and posibily top 5 allready.
I agree 100%. Do not think he will. But I would love it if he could. There is no way that you can be a top 10 p4p fighter and beat the number 1 (who is No.1 by a margin) and not get the nod!
