If Haye beats Valuev "spectacularly" he deserves respect as one

Why do you even bother posting on these threads? You seem incapable of objectivity regarding Haye.

For Haye to gain respect and become a great he'd need a multi-year series of title defenses against credible competition and a minimum of one unification down the line.

Obivously, that's not Haye's goal. He doesn't want to make too many more fights. He always said he wants to retire before his 31st birthday. He also said his strategy is a "high risk one" because he wants to fight very few fights but only against top opposition, without going through too many tune-ups or getting in line for mandatories.

After his Valuev bout in November that roughly leaves him with 24 months of active career if I counted correctly. At his current pace of getting fights done that's two more fights after Valuev before he retires. Maybe he can step up his activity level, we'll have to see.

So that's probably one rematch against Valuev and one mandatory, e.g. against Ruiz. Plus maybe a showdown with Wlad at the end?

Not exactly the lineup he'd need to become great. Chris Byrd fought better competition and never got any much respect even after beating a series of much bigger guys.

You're making too many presumptions ref Don King. IF Haye goes down the route of staying away from the Klits then he is a fraud. The whole situation is not as simple as "Don King always has options"

Don King is one thing, but there's always the WBA mandatories. He will have to face whoever the WBA elects no matter what. I wouldn't be surprised to see a "final elimination bout" between Chagaev and Ruiz, with the winner facing the winner of Valuev/Haye by Spring of 2010.

Wlad will be busy until Spring 2010 it appears and can make another voluntary next summer (2010). If he wins his mandatories that is. Vitali has a mandatory coming up in March and is probably close to retiring.

If it wasn't for Don King there could be a window for a showdown with either brother late next summer. That's in an ideal scenario free of options and obstructions, if everybody wins their fights and an agreement can be reached. Really stretching it here.

Maybe im just an optimist, but I think there's been a shift in promoters and boxing authorities outlook due to the percieved decline of the sport and the global recession. The super 6 tournament is a perfect example of tv networks, promoters & organizations working together and seeing sense.
Hopefully this attitude will be extended to the HW division. Not by a tournament, but by some sort of pressure applied so that we have an undisputed champ.

If Haye beats Valuev he'll be a lot more of a credible HW contender/champion and he'll have a lot more leverage for a unification fight with a Klitschko.

If he is up to anything then beating Valuev brutally is the minimum that is expected of him.

    Haye is afraid of Klitschkos.

The big difference between you and I is that I don't feel the need to belittle my fighters opponents and give credit where it's due
