Yes, there are some posters on here who claim to be American who enjoy nothing more than winding up the "Brits" by slagging off British fighters/culture/etc, but then again we Brits have plenty of posters who love nothing more than "America bashing", so we really can't complain!! In the main, I would imagine that it is all good-hearted banter (Though some of it does seem infantile). Thankfully, there are also many excellent posters from both sides of the Atlantic who's boxing opinion I have learned to respect. With regards David Haye, well David is a master of self-promotion!! He somehow earned a shot at The Heavyweight Championship Of The World by insulting the two most formidable champions, and then pulling out of fights with both fighters! Whilst I consider his "Tactics" as a piece of almost unrivalled self-promotion, I can also fully appreciate how such conduct could annoy other boxing fans. The fact is that David is an exciting addition to the heavyweight ranks. He is an excellent fighter who possesses genuine power and a willing attitude, which when coupled with his obvious vulnerability, will almost always guarantee an exciting fight. In short, he is good for a heavyweight division almost devoid of any drama, but he is almost certainly not the best heavyweight on Earth and until he fights either Klitschko then he will receive generous helping of criticism on here, and this would be the case if he was American!! Of course, having a few "Fans" on this site who are on a par with Floyd, Manny and the Klitschko's "Extremists" will always ensure that he cops for plenty of stick!!
Coming from a neutral point of view as i have no loyalty to either country, Americans are far more willing to critisize their fighters when they need to than Brits.
no I'm not kidding you...morron...it is possible to be something without having yet fought the best competition in the division. Yes haye is a pretender to the thrown. Thats not disputed. And yes he should fight the top dawg. But my point still stands. With or without having gotten a title shot yet Haye would be making a **** load of money already if he was American. Kinda like Zab was making pretty good bank before he fought KT. And he continues to make pretty good bank after getting KTFOed in the second round. Understand my point?
I think people on here are way too harsh on him. He has accomplished a lot in a short career and made an impact after only four fights at heayweight. People will sit there and come out with the same old rhetorical "yeah but he ducked Klitschko" and "his opponents were nothing" but it just shows how unobjective some people are - especially if they apply the same formula to their beloved fighters. Haye's career is far from done and he still has some fights left in him despite the best efforts of some to summarise his career as if it's over and he has already lost to some no hoper. He talks a lot and I appreciate that he won't win over some people - fine. But some people on here just spew bile when it comes to Haye and no matter what anyone says their opinion won't change and it is pointless debating with that level of ignorance. Do I think Haye could beat WALDO? I think he has a chance. But I also think he has a chance to get stopped early by arguably the best heavyweight out there. Haye for me is the most exciting fighter of the two. I enjoy his style, power and the question marks around durability and stamina. The interest in Haye - WALDO would be immense and I'm sure down the line, Haye can secure the fight that the heavyweight division needs. If Haye is so **** then I seriously don't understand why people spend a great deal of time posting about the guy? Also, if he is as **** as people make out, then WALDO gets zero credit for beating him, if he should entertain fighting a loudmouth chinny CW.
I don't know about that. I'm American, and I have a strong dislike for Haye. It has nothing to do with where he is from, or his boxing. It has everything to do with the way he conducts himself. A jerk is a jerk the whole world round.
To be fair mate, it really does depend on the individual fan! If a fighter I support deserves criticism, I am more than happy to dish it out. :thumbsup Great post!
I think its more to do with the fact that you have a hard on for the Quitschko sisters. Do you love the jab and grab?
I think most people's opinions of Haye are based around what happend with the Klitschko brothers, especially their fans. I can understand the frustration in the fights not happening (I was as well) but you'd think that some people would start to let it go - just a little. I mean he was scheduled to face WALD a year ago now. It's a touch unfair to simply whitewash Haye as a **** for the rest of his career / life just for that. I mean, why don't I hang onto the fact that VITLAY bitched and moaned at every given opportunity after Lewis beat him? Or perhaps hold on to all the allegations from WALDO fans after Brewster beat him?
That's because we don't hold on to our fighters like they're the last pieces of gold on Earth. British have so few elite fighters that they put them on pedestals and hold them to such a level. Sometimes the word fanaticism comes to mind. Americans don't do that, and the fact we have more options/champions helps us not having to.
I had a dislike for Haye before he even started negotiating with the Klitschkos, so while that might add to it, it really doesn't have a lot to do with why I don't like him. It has to do with the way he carries himself, his arrogant attitude, etc... I just dislike that from people in general. Same reason I don't like James Toney or Mayweather.
The Brits also do this. I can't speak for the American's but I won't just support someone based on where they are from. Personally, I was cheering Holyfield against Lewis and was slated when I had the gaul to say Marquez would beat the ever loving crap out of Harrison (which he ****ing would have with ease).
I totally agree, please be honest guys...if Haye was american he woulda been the next big thing. But as far as nuthugging goes for Haye by brits i think the other ppl in this board are being very harsh. This might have been the case in the past (i.e. with Calzaghe), but the posts on Haye by brits i think have been very sensible. I.e. by saying he can beat the Klits ppl automatically assume that poster is a nuthugger. Haye can beat the Klits and conversely he can lose to them....although out of all the current heavies he has the best shot at this current moment in this. Whats wrong in saying that, which is what most sensible posters are saying. Altho i think from yesterdays performance (which was decent-ish) my money would defo be on either Klit. Altho Booth mentioned something about an injury which meant no sparring. I hope that was it.
