If Haye was to retire tonight.....

Joe C Wales all day! Even a win over a Klit and his resume still wouldn't be enough to alter the disparity in their respective skillsets.

 

I think even Haye would admit that his cv doesn't match Calzaghe's quite yet.

In the end though he might end up getting the greater respect when he stops Wlad, Vitali, Tomasz and the likes. YEAH I SAID IT!

It is a good win for sure - his 2nd best win IMO just behind Mormeck :good

And I am a much bigger fan of Haye than Calzaghe, but I feel Joe is underrated nowadays (compared to him being overrated 1-2 years ago).

 

This is a tough thread... I really like Calzaghe but can't help thinking he boxed some real puddings at the Championship level...

So far at World Level Haye has boxed two fighters who could have sparked him... There is a strong arguement that Byron Mitchell and Jeff Lacy could have done that to Calzaghe too...:yep

I am tipping towards Calzaghe at the moment on the strength of how well he beat Kessler, out fought and out thought him at the top level... Haye hasn't done that yet, if he beats any of the Klits he will get the edge over Calzaghe...:good

 

I think that's the problem.

Calzaghe fought at least a dozen fighters in title fights that were barely suitable for four rounds of warm up sparring.

Haye's career has been and will be much more compact, quality over quantity.... just wish he'd shut the **** up and fight a Klitschko.

 

The problem is alot of people pretty much discount the whole of Calzaghes 168 career as about 20 bogus defences. Most think his career starts from Lacy onwards. No one gives a **** about the rest because they add nothing to his legacy. A shame really.

Not strictly true.

They do not build an impressive legacy by themselves, but they add some much needed padding for his important later career wins, as emphasised by Kosaros' earlier post.
