Louis, Marciano, Frazier? Watching that fight it's quite clear that Gibbons was fighting purely to avoid getting KO'd. He wasn't even trying to win. He was constantly clinching and several times he literally turned tail and ran away from Dempsey. If he fought this way how would he do against other elite heavyweight punchers?
Good thread, I think so. but he wouldnt win more than 5 rounds out of the 15 against any of the three
He could, but i would consider the possibility that he gets stopped to be more likely. Marciano and Frazier got stronger as the fight went on, while Dempsey's intensity faded badly after 5 rounds. Louis kept a steady punch output throughout the entire fight, although he was troubled more by movers/spoilers than Frazier and Marciano were.
Dempsey was more of a fast starter and slower finisher than Frazier,Marciano,...Louis started fast but one shot from him and he could finish you off with a killer intinct combo....If you stayed clear of Jack and did not try to mix or win, he would let you run...Marciano broke you down, Louis had patience and all he had to do is hurt you and he smelled blood...Dempsey had killer but he would let a guy run and survive and let too many slappers off the hook in his career
