If he loses to Machida, is Jon Jones still the 2012 fighter of the year?

With those 3 wins he is already the favourite for FOY, with Machida he will have one of the best years in MMA history.

The 'Fighter of the Year' doesn't get beaten and lose his championship.

Not that he will lose, mind.

Jones will win it and he should

But i dont feel too good rewarding a guy who continually utterly dwarves his opponents

I don't think fighters should get punished for being more active, who has 3 better wins in 2011 than him atm?

Even if Machida takes him out, his only other win is Couture

No its not his fault. But it's still unfair

He certainly shouldn't be punished for staying active, I'm just saying that a champion who loses his title shouldn't be considered the fighter of the year. I actually think Jon Jones is going to beat Machida and put an exclamation mark on one of the best years ever.

But if he does lose, my top three to replace him would probably be:

Dan Henderson (3-0 with wins over Feijao, Fedor and Shogun)

Anderson Silva (2-0 in title defences, dominant stoppages of Belfort and Okami)

Junior Dos Santos (2-0 beating Carwin to a pulp then stopping Cain for the title)

    Honourable mentions...

Donald Cerrone (Possibly 5-0 if he beats Nate Diaz, has looked excellent)

Nick Diaz (3-0 with wins over Cyborg, Daley and B.J Penn, earns title shot)
