Cal has always rushed in with fast short punches to close the gap and just overwhelm his opponent with knockout punches - lefts over the top, hooks, uppercuts, right hooks, a lot of slaps yes but it's all so fast, in sunch a relentless pace, fed by high octane, that he he gets on top of them until they collapse or do the most to survive... Happens that Joe is not very heavy-handed, it's more of the hand-speed, accuracy and the hard pace, enormous activity and intensity... Cal doesn't have any defense besides charging in and keeping them busy on their defense with his offense or moving around on light feet... I don't see Cal patient and waiting for opportunities, I don't see head movement, I don't see circling movement. The Danger is that he comes short with a jab or a left and he eats a right - if he can take it, that's alright - but seems to me Hops is on sliding rights in there, with elbows and forearms and that would explain why he expects this to be a fight like Muhammad Ali - Henry ( "Bert") Cooper - he wants to open gashes on Cal's softer facial tissue... I expect lost of clinches, holding from either side, holding with the left and hitting with the right ( Hops), holding with the right, hitting behind the head with the left ( Cal), headbutts and low blows, therefore a disqualification is not out of possibility... Remains to know who is the Official appointed to this most difficult fight.

It won't be an issue....not that hops counter punching won't cause this senario to play out, but his power isn't really that great and his activity level has always been moderate....I don't think Bhop will be able to capitalize on the opportunity when the momentum does shift in his favor. Unless he becomes more active and less Defensive minded.

 

You know what a flash KD is right? A flash KD doesn't take much power...just great timing and accuracy. BHop has that without question so....Are you for real?

 

Thank you, I am portuguese alright and try the most to make myself be understood since it's hard to express myself to americans and british guys in their native language. Since I hope everybody will excuse me for any syntax mistakes of mine and for the natural malpropments, I will still try to convey some short ideas... Man, I really and honestly don't see any kind of danger for Hops with Calzaghe staying right in front of him and charging up with superfast pity-pat shots and I can't see what else can Joe do if Hops strikes back but take the shot... So if it comes down to who can swallow shots better - Hops has been taking blasts and fighting through fire most of his career, Calzaghe doesn't get hit so often because he's so busy and keeps em busy holding on... Can Joe come charging in against Bernard in Vegas like he did to Veit in Germany ( since he already had beaten him in 1 in the UK) ? I most seriously doubt it but he can definitely take everything out of Hops' tank at some point and if he can keep it up.

 

Easy to say.. You gotta have fast hands to execute that - and Hopkins does not have that(anymore).

When did you acknowledge about Bernard's decrease in handspeed? He beat JT to the punch with flush rights for 24 rounds ( JT never saw the shot coming), he won 119-108 scores by three judges based only on fast right hand coutering against a taller opponent in Tarver and in 2006, and he was effective and reasonably fast against a high output/busy-fast jabber in Winky in 2007... Calzaghe has superior handspeed but he has to connect with clean shots and do not take counter-shots... In that sense, there's nothing much between them - Calzaghe's handspeed and output against Hopkins' sharpness and precision.

 

Too bad Bernard will not be able to keep up with the pace.

 

It's a 36 minutes fight and he can sit down after each 3 minutes rounds and breathe deeply... Bernard can get very demotivated if Cal throws 50 punches and lands 50% of that and Bernard only connects in single digits. But in what concerns to stamina, the guy is a Gym rat, a fitness maniac, a 38-inch waist, wiry frame LHWT, I have never seen Bernard sucking up air, weak or dizzy in 12 round fights....

I agree, and Bernard is a master boxer. The problem is that Bernard fights at a SLOW pace, which is why he can normally turn it on at the end of fights. Calzaghe WILL force him to fight out of his comfort zone, and push the pace of the fight to much faster than Bernard is used to. I don't think that Bernard will be able to keep up with the pace.
