If old Larry had beaten mccall back in the 90s, which he came close to, who would he have fought next? Big George was a champ at the time and that would have been a battle of the ages. Or tyson was close to his first title shot since jail, would there have been a rematch with holmes as champ? Bruno? Seldon,? Morrison? Or would he have gone cherry picking similar to George?
Tyson rematch. The Tyson camp signs that contract in a hurry and It'd just be a case of DKP taking the Brinks truck to the Holmes side of things. But for such a massive payday, he signs.
If it was a tyson rematch, which is very likely as u mentioned, what happens. Is there a cat in heck s chance of Larry pulling this off?? I certainly can't see it. Yes holmes would be better prepared than first fight but holmes in his forty s now and tyson hungry for a belt I can see it ending badly for Larry
I reckon Holmes would have been smart enough to avoid a rematch with Mike Tyson. A veteran's battle with George Foreman would have been the obvious choice here. A true 50/50 one.
Would have been interesting to see big George vs Larry. Two legend of the ring in there twilight years. Would nt like to pick one to be honest
George wanted no part of Holmes. A belt wouldn't change that. Holmes would likely get massacred by Tyson or fight a couple soft touches, or both.
DKP wanted Iron Mike to regain the title. If Holmes does anything other than rematch Mike fairly quickly, his title gets stripped. King would have had this all planned with Larry for him to even get the McCall shot. Otherwise, there are half a dozen other guys to get that shot at Oliver.
So how would tyson vs holmes 2 have played out. I can't see Larry getting out of the 6th at that point
First of all there was NO CHANCE of a second bout vs Tyson. Larry KNEW he had no chance and would have been koed brutally. He would never sign for such a fight and frankly it would have been a tough sell to the boxing public anyway. Secondly Holmes wanted to meet Foreman. George was smart enough to avoid even an old Holmes.
Interesting scenario. Larry knew he would not beat Tyson at that stage and someone correctly pointed out that would be a tough sell to the public. Larry wanted George but I don't think George wanted Larry. And while that fight would of been hyped it really would of made the division look awful. He probably get last Bruno I guess ?
Probably true about big George not wanting holmes. Even at that point holmes was still talented and able to beat a few good heavy s. At that stage he had experience and savy, maybe not the punch of foreman but able to avoid that, tie him up and use that still useful jab. So like few said would probably have avoided foreman. No doubt Lewis would have loved a chance with holmes but holmes wasn't having that. He may have fought Bruno, in which case I see similar fight to Bruno v mccall where Frank peppers Holmes with his jab, throws a few good meaty right s and is still there at the end of the twelve, but only just with holmes hurting him last round s.
It's doubtful that Holmes would have taken a high risk-low reward opponent like a Bruno or Morrison in 1995. The money would have to be there for him to fight anyone dangerous. That being the case he'd probably pursue Foreman or rematches with Holyfield or Tyson. Big George is the only one of those three who I'd give him any real chance at beating and at that point in their lives it'd probably be 50/50.
