Had Holmes fought Tyson in Nov. '86 as fantasized, Holmes would be a live dog for the green but hot Tyson..... Hell, Holmes was doing well against Tyson in Jan. '88---until he got nailed by that over-hand right in rd. 4 from Tyson.... Holmes at a soft 227 and age 38 had no reflexes in that fight.......

I shudder at what the quality of opposition would have been immediately post Spinks after losing as a 6-1 odd fave first fight. I think he'd fight Tyson for the big money with no undefeated record or Marciano record to chase.

And what did McCall in the first 9 rounds? Almost nothing. Yeah, Atomic Bull railed and caught the last rounds but Holmes should be awarded 7 or 8 rounds before that. McCall was simply outboxed in that bout. He rocked Holmes but we have 10 point must system, and that's why I think that Larry was robbed that night.

Holmes was in bad trouble when saved by the bell in the final round.

The hook has hit on a relevant point.

It is possible to argue that Holmes could have lost the lineal title before he went into the first Spinks fight, with better judging.

If so then that opens up a whole can of worms, and perhaps creates a few more lineal champions. Once you loose the title, it can take a bit of a tour before you get another crack at it.

Christ, Holmes was not well liked, however, he was connected to Don King.... Holmes edged "The Spoon" by a friggin' **** hair on points and that's all it takes to win.... Again, a draw in 1983 would've been fair..... Spoon really needed to drop Holmes in round 9, but he didn't.... Spoon let Holmes off the hook there....

Besides, people seem to forget that a lotta folks think Spoon got lucky in his win over Renaldo Snipes before he got his shot at Holmes in '83.... I saw the fight on national TV when it happened and I had Snipes winning after 10 rds.... Poor Snipes, he had very little luck after Holmes TKO'd his ass in 1981....

Ok then, considering I haven't watched them early fights I have to take them as victories. From the rematch with spinks onwards how do you see his career going with different judges?

Holmes did very well after his '88 KO loss to Tyson..... He only truly lost to Holy in 1992..... Holmes deserved a draw based on points against McCall in 1995.... Holmes was sharp in rds 1 thru 7.... Holmes beat Mo Harris by a **** hair in 1997, but Harris could've gotten the draw there.... I'm kool with that idea...... Holmes was reamed in Denmark against Nielsen..... Holmes lost a split decision that spelled home cooking for Brian...

I feel Holmes has gotten very fair treatment overall, but he was of course shafted against Spinks in 1986.... WORD!

I think he would have gotten the decision against Tyson.

Tyson can stop anybody above 200 pounds that he can reach and tag squarely...... I never thought Tyson landed well enough against Holy in 1996 / 1997 or against Lewis in 2002..... Tyson was slow and off-key in them fights due to regression in skills....

Tyson almost had Douglas out in round 8, and Douglas did get a long-ass count by the ref upon rising..... Douglas didn't handle power shots well......

Only "Dull" Razor Ruddock of 1991 had the chin and grit to take a full wicked-ass beating like a man against Tyson in fight # 2.... Ruddock came to fight; not hold like "Green, Smith & Tucker" of the 1980s....

I think only a very small minority believe spinks deserved a win in the rematch.
