The current estimate is that if Calzaghe has waited for Hopkins to be 43 before he fights him, he'll wait until Jones is in his mid-50's.

Hopkins better than Jones? No chance in hell, even if he does beat Calzaghe, who has only 1 decent win on his record.

I cant see how people are ranking Hopkins higher than Jones.
    Who did Hopkins beat?
his greatest wins to date are 2 blown up welterweights.
I respect him for his 20 title defenses. A great accomplishment, but against who?
He stayed at Middleweight and basically cleaned out a division of RJ'e left overs. RJ went from middleweight beating bhop in the process, went to super middleweight beating James Toney in the process. TO LHW, damn near captured every belt there was at that division. Defended the, countless times. Went up and captured a piece of the heavyweight crown. John Ruiz or not, he is still a heavyweight, and RJ is a natural middleweight, and then he came back down and regained his LHW championship.
BHOP stayed at middleweight and fought who again. He never challenged himself. He stayed at 160. RJ went as high as 200 pounds. GIve me a break, if you think BHOP accomplished more

That has to be one of the most ******ed statements about boxing that I've ever seen.

Oddly enough, when they fought it was the other way around. For half of the fight, Hopkins barely hard the courage to throw a proper jab.

The fight was a snoozefest, but it was competitive.

Both guys threw COUNTLESS punches that fell short of the mark.

I already have Hopkins ahead .. not by much but still quite clearly.
If he beats Calzaghe it will not be close anymore.

For all the natural talent that RJJ had 1 thing he had not was longevity.
Prime for prime RJJ will always beat Hopkins but thats where it ends... because Hopkins is a true student of the sweet science and dedicated himself to truly master boxing he is still at the top p4p well into his 40's

RJJ on the other hand completely relied on his natural abilities thats why at only mid 30s hes only a shell of his former self even though he is still faster and more athletic than most... now only if RJJ had the same respect for boxing as Hopkins has.

Head 2 head RJJ might be better due to his freakish natural abilities but Hopkins is the greater boxer and ahead as a ATG for me.

Most likely. But he will never be what Jones was or viewed as Jones when comparing who would beat whom.

Hopkins has no more longevity really. Jones came into prominance before him. He started fighting earlier. Hopkins has been on top for about 12 years.....Jones was on top for about 11 years.

Competitive my meevoks. Roy won what, 11 rounds? He didn't dominate Hopkins, but by the 8th round Hopkins was already looking (and I use that term loosely, since Hopkins barely tried to KO Roy at all and spent most of the fight staring at his boots) for a knockout because he was 7 rounds behind. Sure, a lot of Roy's punches missed, but that's only because Hopkins spent all the fight trying not to get hit at any cost.

I said this on another thread but I think what a win would do would give Hopkins a historical niche as the greatest older fighter of all time. After 36 he would have wins over Trinidad, Hoya, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe and others. That is five TERRIFIC victories past the age of 36! I don't think even Walcott can compete with that. I think that really sets Hopkins apart, he would truly be the greatest older boxer of all time, an amazing achievement.

As to Roy vs. Hopkins all time, I think it depends on criteria. Hopkins the slight edge in achievements, Jones the slight edge in head to head, I think they'd be about even.

Also, if Hopkins wins and Jones wins, I would be absolutely shocked if they didn't then fight each other. A fight which, though certainly no longer definitive in importance, would still to my mind be very risky for Jones in this comparison.
