while the trinidad win was an excellent one, as was the pavlik and wright wins i would say it would be pretty high due to his age. not to mention that dawson is a very good fighter. but it would be pretty high, not the best one though.
Anyone that would put the Pavlik win over a hypothetical clear win over Dawson....why? I want to hear the reasoning on that.
H2H, Dawson kills Pavlik but it's also about circumstances. Hopkins was viewed as "done" after his fight with Calzaghe and Pavlik was the supposed new superstar in boxing and undefeated. People feared for Hopkin's safety, including Freddie Roach. Hopkins was a 3/1 underdog. He completely dominated Pavlik. Who knows what Pavlik's career would've looked like if he never faced Hopkins. Having said that, i would probably rank the Dawson win over Pavlik also.
It would be a very solid win. People forget that Dawson was in everybodys top 5 P4P list before the Pascal fight.
Dawson is very boring. This might actually be the borefest of the year. Chad does not throw many punches. This suits Hopkins very well. But if Chad lets his hands go, it is his fight to lose.
Dawson is not boring at all, exception made for those who watch the sweet science as they look up to the UFC and MMA fights. Chad does throw a big volume of accurate, sharp and fast punches from leftfield, triples the jab, one-twos, lots of sneaking str8 left, double lead power right hooks, thunderous body puncher and according to law - body first, finishes up to the head. Hopkins will have to make an inside war since he can't use legs to rush in like Pascal and remain stationary is half way to be outpunched. If Chad lets his hands go, he may win but he will also engage a whole lot more than I have seen thus far and he may get caught in between.
Where I'd disagree with this is by saying that the perception at that time was wrong. Hopkins clearly wasn't done and was being written off too early and Pavlik elevated too high too soon. So yeah, the odds might have made the Pavlik win a bigger deal but history sorts it out so that Dawson is the better fighter and add to that Hopkins is older, so Dawson would be the bigger win barring some sort of controversy.
Number 3 or 4. 1. Trinidad 2. Tarver 3/4. Dawson/Pavlik 5. Pascal 6. Johnson 7. Wright 8. Holmes 9. De La Hoya 10. Joppy
I still fell that Dawson's loss to Pascal was something of a fluke and that he's the best at 175. Hopkins has had a cupple of very nice wins over Pascal and Pavlik. I think both are limited as boxers and Hopkins took advantage, and that while smart and clever. hopkins has not been in with someone with equal or better boxing skills. For this reason I'm picking Dawson to beat Hopkins. Hopkins has surprised before pertictuary when he beat Trinidad. If he beats Dawson it will be his best or second best win.
This is what I agree with. I think history is going to be more kind to Dawson and Pascal than Pavlik and the Pascal win and a hypothetical impressive win over Dawson should be above the Pavlik win.
