it will be his first win against an elite fighter at a fair weight in his entire career :deal Not that Kovalev can be considered an elite fighter yet but I am prepared to give Hopkins the benefit of the doubt. In 30 years time when boxing fans look back at the history of the sport they will ask who did Hopkins actually beat? They will not be able to come up with a great win at a fair weight and then they will notice that 9 times he stepped into the ring and wasn't good enough to beat his opponent. Not once, not twice, not 3 times, not 4 times, not 5 times, not 6 times, not 7 times, not 8 times, but 9 times he has stepped into the squared circle and not been good enough to beat his opponent. Don't ever compare him with true greats like Mayweather and Pacquiao, all Hopkins has is longevity through fouling tactics, no ped testing and corrupt officiating :deal
Hopkins will be remembered as the legend he is. The oldest world champion there ever was and one of the best defensive fighter ever. Get the **** outta here.
Even if Kovalev loses Saturday, he can still go on to be a force in the division. It's not like it'll end his career. Kovalev didn't retire when he killed an opponent. He should be mentally tough enough to come back from a loss.
Hopkins will be remembered as being great at beating B/C level fighters and fouling his way to victories late on in his career. Also for calling out fighters like ODLH, Mosley, Trinidad, and Mayweather when his 1st 15 fights were in the light heavyweight division When the big tests came he fell short :yep
Not sure I understand the logic behind justifying his lack of greatness by pointing out the number of loses? However, aside from the likes of Floyd, Pacman you'd have to consider him within the top range of pugilists within the last 15 years.
They'll look back on his career and remember him as one of the GOAT 160 and one of the greatest for being able to fight at 50 years old (drugs/catchweights/gloves/ring size /purses/tacics etc etc wil long be forgotten) Sadly. that probably holds true for previous generations
If he can beat Kovalev and Stevenson before retiring, it would be an incredible statement of how great Hopkins is.
Evening champ, yeh to a degree but they wont see a defining victory in that 160 reign. Trinidad was a career welterweight, hopkins a light heavyweight, trinidads record above welterweight is something like 2 and 3.
Most wont look for it. They'll just see xx years as MW champ and think "woah what a legend" Then they'll see 50 years old and think "woah what a legend" Then they'll put 2n2 together and have Hopkin above Hagler Just think what that does for Calzaghe
Hey Luf, just 370 profile views and 330 vcash - you aren't even qualified to post on a Team Elite superthread :nono
This is probably true pal, when you see how Larry Holmes gets rated against Klitchsko these days people forget that Holmes era was the weakest in heavyweight history and only given any credability because the american media reported on a domestic division.
