If Hopkins beats Pavlik, does he surpass RJJ on the ATG list?

If Hopkins beats Pavlik (a top ten P4P fighter in his prime) and Jones loses to Slappy Joe, does Hopkins pass Jones on the ATG list? Obviously, prime 4 prime, Jones was the better, more accomplished fighter but when you look at their careers in terms of longevity I think Hopkins makes a strong case for being the better fighter. While in his forties, Hopkins beat Tarver, Wright, lost a razor thin decision to JC (who many rank as P4P#1) and if he beats Pavlik, the man recognized as "The man" at 160, I think he passes Jones. Thoughts?

You didn't even read my thread did you....and I wouldn't call Jones win over Hop an embarassment. Jones was far from dominant.

Depends how seriously you take the drug cheat allegations against Roy.

I see what you mean but I have to disagree... I wish to see them fight first of all but taking in consideration everything RJJ has done, even getting a HW strap, C'mon... hands down RJJ is over B-Hop at the ATG list.

I wouldn't rate him higher, Roy is one of few to win a heavyweight title all down from 160, and he was the dominant, superior boxer at MW,SMW(arguably..) and LHW.

Look...Roy is my favorite fighter and the reason I started following boxing 11 years ago...but lets be fair here and not judge their careers by only comparing prime 4 prime. Would you guys rate James Toney above B-hop or Jones? I wouldn't, but Toney started his career at 154, same as Jones and beat John Ruiz even worse than Jones did. Ruiz was the weakest heavyweight title holder at the time...and perhaps of all time.

I think you would have to say yes. Even though i think Jones beats Hopkins everytime, Hopkins would have bigger wins on his resume.

Beating Pavlik would be very big. I mean talent-wise, Roy is just the best fighter since Robinson. But if you look at their resume, especially the wins over P4P fighters, Hopkins can have an edge.

Does Jones have a win over a top10 p4p-er other than Toney? Griffin maybe, I don't know.

Hopkins on the other hand never was beaten badly, not by Roy and not by anyone and he defeated p4p-er Tito, Winky, Tarver. Was Oscar rated in the top10 back then?

I mean a title at HW means a lot. But John Ruiz was handpicked and some doubt that Roy could put enough muscle on naturally, just by eating and training - and he had bad problems moving back down.

But at 43, Hopkins came close to beat (well, not prime) Calzaghe, and has two close/controverisal losses to Taylor. That sounds soooo good, but people will try to convince the public that Hopkins has only defeated 'small guys'.
