I thought Hopkins won when they actually did fight. A younger, fresher version would have been better able to execute a consistent plan. He wins clearer and wider if they fight in 2002. That's not a knock on Calzaghe. I believe Calzaghe is absolutely for real and a great fighter. He just doesn't beat Hopkins at that point, in my opinion.

Edit: I've discussed this in detail enough times that I won't be back to this thread to reply if someone comments on my post.

And the Hopkins of 2002 would offer similar resistance he gave to Calzaghe in 2008?

    What about his stamina
was Hopkins Stamina in 2008 twice as good as his stamina in 2002?

What about his power he only got 2 KO wins since 2002, and has 32 wins by KO in total, was his power in 2008 better than his power in 2002?

One fact that cannot be denied is that Hopkins was 40+, and it cannot be but some attributes decline as you age.

    Hopkins 2002 (mid 30's) > Hopkins 2008 (40+)

tht **** dont even need to be written coz its more or less common sense

It aint bout the win over Trinidad
Hopkins clearly had better stamina, speed and power in that fight than he showed when he fought Calzaghe, Wright and Taylor back in 05.

Hopkins lost a decision when he was over 40 and didnt maintain a high enough output. When he was younger he threw more punches and all I think he has to do to beat Calzaghe is up his output. That is why I would pick him.

How do you explain the fact that Hopkins punch output against Wright was broadly similar to what he managed against Trinidad?

Really? Come on now. Even I didn't think ESB would sink to these lows.

I can't wait to see Pacquaio in 10 years. Imagine how good he'll be then.
