I can't think of anybody else that could surpass what Hopkins accomplished this year if Hopkins beats Dawson.
B-Hop would be the fighter of the year, hands down. Which would be a nice accomplishment for him considering he last won fighter of the year in 2001, when he was already considered old in boxing terms.
The first fight happened last year so it don't count. I thought Hopkins won the second fight clearly. Not even Pascal disputes this. Not to mention, Hopkins is 46 years of age. I didn't know only americans could be impressed by that fact.
He had one fight in this year with Pascal and beat him. Pascal has never really been completely shut out in any fight and was the Champ. If a 46 yr old man beat the champ and his #1 contender in the same year, and set a record for being the oldest lineal champ ever, that is really something. Who would you pick? Lucian Bute? Saul Alvarez? Mikkel Kessler?:rofl:rofl:rofl
Hopkins could make a strong case for fighter of the year with a win over Dawson, which I dont see happening. The way I look at it, Marquez has a much better chance to beat the PED user he will face in November than Hopkins does of beating Dawson. .......if this is the case, Marquez will take fighter of the year.
I'm dead serious. Its been proven for years Hopkins does'nt handle speed well. The two fastest fighters Hopkins faced over the last several years, Taylor twice, and Calzaghe, he lost to. Dawson is a long lightheavyweight who's southpaw and is quicker and faster than Hopkins. From my point of view, I dont see where Hopkins will even be competitive...... ......where on the flipside, though Marquez is older and going up in weight.....stylewise, we know he can handle Pacquiao's explosiveness, and he's proven to have the boxing pedigree to box the pants off of Pacquiao. Marquez and Hopkins are two old fighters. One Hopkins is proven not to be able to handle quick speedy fighters, the other Marquez has twice shown us has the style to make Pacquiao look like an amatuer. I say Marquez by virtue of styles has the much better chance to emerge victorious.
He's the most passionate JMM supporter on ESB and maybe all of the world. Don't sweat it. He scored JMM/Mayweather a draw.
