If Hopkins had fought as well as he did last night, he would have beaten Calzaghe

    :rofl :thumbsup

It's easier to get a rich man through the eye of a needle than it is to get Americans to appreciate a European boxer. There are some enlightened ones that get it, but there's a lot of prejudiced people out there.

For one, just like Pavlik, Joe barely landed any clean punches all fight long. He won on ODH type flurries of nothing. For two, as Bhop recently realized at his old age he overtrained for his prior fights and left him with less energy for the actual fight. For three, Bhop trained and sparred little for Pavlik and this fight was fought at a similar pace but Bhop had to avoid real punches rather smacks. The whole point that makes fighting Calslappy frustrating is the fact they actually score those flinged pathetic slaps as punches. Bhop landed the more telling and meaningful shots the whole fight. There is NOTHING CALZAGHE COULD OF DONE DIFFERENT. When he tried to box like in the early rounds he got easily outboxed. He had no choice but to swarm in with flurries of slaps. Lastly, he didnt really win that fight.

Say what? Hopkins' best performance was against Calzaghe?

Not many people would agree with that.

So you think if Calzaghe fought Hopkins again the fight would go the same way and the result would be the same?

You can't compare a 26 year old guy on his way up to a 35 year old champion of the last 10-11 years one one night.

It's ridiculous to say what would happen if they were to fight again. Do you guys really think BHop would fight the same way against JC? Do you think JC woould fight the same against BHop? Quite ridiculous! JC fans want to take that win and ride off into the sunset like it tells the complete story of BHop, KP, Jermaine, and everyone else as it relates to JC.

I understand the guy doesn't always gets the respect he deserves, but I do thin some of his fans try to overcompensate by not admitting how close that BHop fight was. He didn't "mop the floor" with him. In fact, he was put on his ass once. And he never really hurt him,

    .

I would be inclined to take BHop in a rematch.
And I would be inclined to take JC in a close decision over KP.

Sorry, I missed your post, somehow.

I agree with your very good analyses of the Hopkins vs. Pavlik and Calzaghe vs. Hopkins fights. I also would like to see a rematch because I think Hopkins would prove that he could fight better than he did last time. I am sure Calzaghe would prove he could fight better too, but my money would be on Hopkins if they were to fight again. I started another thread in which I suggested that Hopkins underperformed more than Calzaghe did, in their fight.

I disagree with you because Calzaghes hand speed, endless stamina, and tempo is what won him that fight.Hopkins worst style matchup is someone who hast fast hands, great stamina ,and fights at a fast pace....He will always have his worst performances against those type of fighters....Even his own guy Nazim said he shouldnt fight Joe because he knew it would stylistically be bad for Bernard....joe took away his main weapon( the right hand) roughed him up just as bad in the clinches and while he couldnt land anything with a lot of steam on it he still landed the most anyone ever landed on Bernard.......I just think tha Kelly was to one dimensional and Bernard as we know isnt and it showed..........Thats why i always said Calzaghe would have humiliated Kelly because of the styles......:rasta
