Do you think Joe would have done better, or would it have favord Slopkins if they fought at 168??

Because nobody knew who the **** Calzaghe was outside of the U.k. The audience would have been small, better money elsewhere and Calzaghe is a live opponent. Add all of them factors togeather and it seems very logical. Thats presuming that this story is even true.

Why is everyone speculating about what would have happened if the fight had been five years ago?

We already know what would have happened if the fight had been five years ago.

Hopkins would have ducked it for a risk free money fight against a fatted-up welterweight....

    U DUMB!!!

hopkins agreed to take the fight for 3mil but at the last minute came back and doubled his demands, demands that he knew couldn't be met unless he fought a huge name like a DLH.

....and don't give me the who was calzaghe? bull****. instead of taking the fight with joe he then fought morrade hakkar, william joppy and robert ****ing allen for the third time!!!!!!!!!!!! before going onto face DLH over 2 years after the calzaghe deal fell through.

it seems like hopkins weren't so sure about beating joe like some of his fans seem to think.

cracking bit of footage, that and the 1st round KD won him the fight, no point watching the rest of the rounds as Hopkins swings and misses and ate punches for the rest of the fight... if only 4 decent shots all fight and wrestling could win fights eh? :rofl

If Hopkins was a few years younger, Calzaghe would also be a few years younger... works both ways. Hopkins would have always lost this fight imo, even a past prime brittle handed version of Joe with decreasing speed beat Hopkins. This is conveniently overlooked.

...calzaghe would not only be younger too but his hands wouldn't be so ****ed and his punches would carry far more bad intentions

Bollocks. Joe got cocky and wasn't sharp so he ate a beaut of a right hand and got put on his bum. He then got caught with a few more but all along he was gauging them. He then was aware and started blocking them or making them miss. You are never going to totally stop X from hitting you but Joe pretty quickly took that offensive punch away. That is why Hopkins was being forced to open up with two hands and make it a really messy fight.

Hence why i listed one of the reasons as live, but as i said Calzaghe's wasn't a big deal, certainly not a big enough deal to risk losing for no real reward. Seeing as Joe sat on one of the worst belts for nine years fighting no one, not even attempting to unify, i would be a little less vocal about stepping up to the plate.:deal
