    Considering:

    Resume/ Quality of opposition
    Consistency

    and

    Longevity

I would have to put him ahead of PBF.

Great win. Back to back to back wins over Tarver, Wright and Calzaghe. Most men would be thrilled to win those three in a whole career.

His resume is excellent, but I think Mayweather's is better. If Hopkins beats Calzaghe it will be a tough decision.

    Consistency...Mayweather has been more consistent.

Longevity...Hopkins has been on the top level scene since 1995 (13 years). Mayweather since 1998 (10 years).

There is still 2 years left and you don't know what a guy like Cotto will do. He has already beaten a lot of good/great fighters.

    How is Mayweather's resume better!!!???

Hopkins is the fighter of the decade IMO. He can be boring at times but he usually performs and pulls out the W.

When I say longevity, I mean also taking into consideration his age. His accomplishments are even more impressive when that's considered.

That's a darn good question. I would say yes so far, but with two years to go in the decade, things could change.

Well, considering that Mayweather has been P4P #1 since '04 and has never lost, it's a no ****in brainer who the fighter of the decade and a future top 5 all-time great is. Leonard was the fighter of the 80's, Jones of the 90's, and Mayweather of the current decade. Nobody ever asked themselves if Hopkins was the greatest fighter ever, but many have asked themselves that question when watching Mayweather.

I would put Pacquiao ahead of Mayweather in that category based on the guys he's fought.

If Hopkins beat Calzaghe, he'd have to be ranked ahead of Mayweather based on longevity and level of competition. A win over Calzaghe would be better than any of Floyd's wins.

So, yes, the fighter of the 2000s if he wins.

Its not...Floyd just has many, many uninformed fans of his (as opposed to fans of the sport) that frequent here.

But as klion said, Cotto may very well end up being the fighter of the decade. He is active (fights a few times a year) and still has two years left before the decade finishes (when Floyd and Bernard will be retired). Imagine if he beats Margo, Floyd and say Williams or someone of that ilk. Not to say that would surpass what the others have done...but he is pretty much the only one who can catch the other two (I would also add Calzaghe in that discussion).
