If I gave you a massive budget to make a film about one boxer

Since then I'd like to add Joey Giardello

Only fighter other than Ali who appealed to masses regardless of country.
Opening scene: Dirt poor selling cigarettes on the street.
Fast forward to him Running across some dude name Muhammad who gets him hooked up with Roach.
Controversy in court, leaving Murad for Arum-to show the shady side of boxing.

For the woman-bring in scene of meeting his wife to be, hellatious scene of destruction of his homeland due to storms. Scenes showing how his country was ravaged, people in food lines by the thousands (these shoots show the soft-side of him, ) who knows maybe this is the part in the movie where Pac is shown shedding tears for his countrymen, breaking his bank account.
Definitely show a scene where thugs, criminals in his homeland stop fighting, killing when a Pac fight happens to let the world see how he affected his country.

Add some controversy with the outgoing Ariza and how it may have affected Manny. His resolve brings in another demographic to watch the movie: Christians. As he (supposedly) finds God.
Add some comedy by showing his god-awful movies like Wapakman & his singing career.

The plot thickens with a side-story: His rival with JMM, but still focusing on the main part of the story (Pac's love for his countrymen) he loses his 1st bid in politics...but runs again, this time in his wife's province.
Like the Ali story with WIll Smith, where they ended in Africa vs Foreman, I think this story would/should end with the loss to Floyd. Telling the inside story to his injury. But when he arrives home he is still seen as the hero.

Final scene shows him reminiscing on his whole life while walking down the road he began selling cigarettes. There is a kid who walks up to him & ask if he would buy something from him- Pac see's himself in that kid and replies, Sure I buy what U got...scene pans out showing both walking together.

I pick up my Oscar, Grammy, best script, best director, best cinematography, best soundtrack and all other accolades for laying this one OUT! Heck I might even let @janitor come on stage for providing the massive budget needed to make this the Gr8est boxing movie ever!

Ali played a small part in the 1980s with a dude named Leon Kennedy. I think his success came from his fine wife who did some roles. Through her he got a role then was pegged to be the next big star. Not sure why he never made it. My guess is he wanted to do his own movies which kept him the genre of Black exploitation movies.

BODY AND SOUL is the name of the movie. IMO he patterned himself after Ray Leonard. Stereotypical mean old geezer as the trainer. His nemesis is drawn from Roberto Duran an angry Hispanic who prefers to fight not box. aka Madman Santiago) Funny scene in the movie, where he was asked what did he fill on out his only job application, he replied "I knock MF'ers OUT!" a fan asks to take a picture with her baby. When he pee'd on his leg, he threw her baby back at her. Sounds bad, but it was funny as heck!
Totally stereotypical roles, but damn funny!

Movies have been made about guys who had great stories who were inferior fighters vis a vis Saad - Mickey Ward, Ray Mancini and Vinny Paz.

Saad had a great backstory, model looks, exciting style and HOF credentials.

I am a white, politically conservative person.

But, I have to say Mancini, Ward, and Paz had the 'proper pigmentation' for main stream boxing marketing and Saad did not.

 

Very under appreciated fighter, he was never a dedicated gym rat,but when he was fit ,he was a tough handful for anyone as Tiger,Fullmer ,and Carter could testify.

 

The Dempsey fight with Treat Williams isn't so bad imo.
A Greb movie would be great and they wouldn't need to, "gild the lily "!

 

I think The Great White Hope is excellent, James Earl Jones did a great job!James J Beattie played Willard.

 

Now I sort of hope they don't because I know they'd make Joe Louis and or Ezzard Charles villains

 

Jock McAvoy with his hand problems should appeal to you.
