To sell? Does it? I'm not so sure on that...

Hype sells now, not storylines. Be that in the film industry, or the boxing world.

I'm not here to argue about Floyd Mayweather, who I'm not even a fan of.
You clearly despise him though, to the point where you're even denying that a movie about him would sell better than any other boxer... Whilst we're literally in his era, with his casuals, his fan boys, his name and reputation, fame etc?

    I mean it's a no brainer

Nah, you need a story line, to even get it to the production stage!

Multiple hip surgeries , fled war zones , gunned down outside the kabab house , they told him he'd never box again. Not only would he box again , Manuel Charr would become the HW Champion of the world.

'Manny Charr' written , directed and starring - Manuel Charr.

Thousands of movies with awful storylines would say otherwise.

It'd need to have a good storyline to be a renowned film, but being critically acclaimed and selling are two different things

Amir Khan would be ideal as Legoless the elf - "I'd rather get knocked out than drink with you, dwarf"

If there's a story worth telling there, I imagine it stems from the chaotic upbringing, the history of boxing in the family (and the dynamics thereof), and ultimately, the whole creation of the "Money" persona and how that (I would assume) differs from Floyd's normal self. The character vs the man, so to say.

There could be an interesting angle there for a film if the filmmaker avoided cliches normally associated with bio pics and went for a more "artistic" and less conventional approach.

I agree that a lot of movies have terrible story lines.

But I think a story on Floyd (or any of MANY famous boxers throughout history) would inherently have at least 1 angle worth exploration for a movie, depending on the individual.

He went from a poor background to being one of the wealthiest athletes of all time.

You could make an incredible movie about Mayweather.

His uncle shot his dad while his dad was holding him. He grew up surrounded by adversity and chaos, and somehow developed an indescribable drive to succeed.

Something drove his no-lose mentality. It probably came from his childhood. Perhaps the trauma he suffered from his childhood caused him to develop a personality in which he always wanted to control the outcome; ie winning. I would explore his life in that style, and see what story comes from it.

Also a lot of thematic symbolism you could use too. He dodged the bullet, he dodges punches. Would be an interesting one.

Stanley Ketchel: Joins a gang, runs away from home at 12, becomes a child hobo. Street fighting, becomes a bouncer, then participates in backroom boxing matches, eventually touring the country offering to beat any man including heavyweights. Turns pro and wins the middleweight title with a grueling 32nd round knockout. Fights a vicious four part series with rival Billy Papke, the last of which is fought outside during a torrential thunder storm. Knocks out the reigning light-heavyweight champ but doesn't get the decision. Goes on to fight the heavyweight champ Jack Johnson in a David vs Goliath style match. Knocks the champ down but then gets clobbered with several teeth embedding in Johnson's glove. Resting up at his friend's ranch in Texas he gets robbed and shot by a Bonny and Clyde type duo who are quickly captured. Friends race the wounded Ketchel to a hospital but he dies on the way. Upon being informed of Ketchel's death, his manager Wilson Mizner reportedly said, "Tell them to start counting ten over him. He'll get up." Fade to black, credits.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be interesting to explore some of the more violent characters of the sport like Ayala too. Monzon would play kind of like a more extreme Raging Bull. But imagine an Ayala Jr picture where he's raping women by day and boxing by night leading a weird double life? Maybe, do a version of Ruben "Hurricane" Carter's life that was factual and showed him for being the violent racist piece of **** multiple murderer he was. Show him going in and out of prison for assaulting people his whole life. Show him murdering those people at the bar and hospitalizing a lady who'd worked to free him when she wouldn't have sex with him once he was out. I also think a Freddie Mills biopic would be fascinating if you assumed that the rumors of him being a serial killer were true.

Was I the only person who was pissed that the Micky Ward biopic "The Fighter" ended before his fights with Emmanuel Augustus or Arturo Gatti?
