Yep! He put on a brave effort against one of the very best in the world, and despite losing has raised his profile. This would be the worst time for someone like Plant to retire. He can still rebuild and get more decent money opportunities.
Yep. Pack it in. If you can’t be the very best at your profession, might as well find a new job. Speaking of which, I need to type out my resignation letter tonight.
I don't think Canelo will stay in the weight class indefinitely. Plant could still pick up a strap later on down the road. I actually thought he was doing pretty well in the early rounds outboxing Canelo. I didn't think he'd pick up as many rounds as he did. He is still young and has a desire to fight. You don't need to be the best to keep fighting, sometimes you just want to see how far your best goes.
Who is OP to say what constitutes a meaningful legacy? So the vast, vast, vast majority of fighters will never be hailed P4P Picasso. Doesn't mean they can't build a creditable body of work, to look back on with satisfaction, for as long as they possess the desire to fight.
What an odd thread. Plant had 21 fights before fighting Canelo. He had only been past the 10th round 3 times in his life. Hes 29 years old. Barring drugs, alcohol, gym wars, or a fight that ruins him in one night, the most realistic course here is that Plant continues to improve in the next few years, likely peaking around age 32 or 33, with another 5 championship level fights under his belt. Plants flaws are easily fixed with time and experience. He is very good with the style he has in certain frames of a fight, but there are transitioning states of the fight where he has lapses in what hes trying to do in there. He also has a stamina issue that hes slowly correcting. Retiring now because he lost to the p4p best fighter in his 22nd pro fight is just a bizarre take to me.
If the OP means that he’ll never have a payday like this again? Probably. He’s not a huge draw. Someone mentioned Cotto, but Cotto was a good draw his whole career. but nah. Plant still can compete and make some good money.
Kelly Pavlik for all his issues, the reason he can have such a fluid conversation on a show like Joe Rogan is cause he hung them up at around the same age I'd again advice if I were anywhere near Plant for him to take whatever money he has earnt and do the same.
