Still be under Arum? I mean, why doesn't Pac at this stage of his career and how rich and famous he is doesn't let go of his promoter? That way he can have 100% of his money to himself just like Mayweather AND fight who ever he wants. I mean, really, does he need Arum?? :think

It can't be that bad? Floyd was broke, had to comeback, had to ask Oscar for a loan and had the IRS on his arse. Which position would you prefer to be in?

the loan, thing is a rumor and the irs was paid. it had to do with them saying he owed them more than what he reported as income from 2002-2007. however he has made over 70 million in his last 2 fights. so i would definitely be the guy who made tiger and nascar money in the last 9 months in 2 nights work

interesting point, ive often thought this. i dont know where he stands in terms of clauses in contracts if he were to leave arum. personally though arum has got him just the fights everyone wanted over the last 5 years. the only one he hasnt yet nailed is the mayweather fight, but im sure thats in the pipeline.

FLoyd dosent keep all his money. he splits his promotions with golden boy, as does manny who has his own MP company but still is handled by Arum. They all have their own company so they can keep a bit more money to themselves- but in essence Top Rank and Golden Boy handle the guys. Arum takes i ve heard something like 22.5 percent- and Golden boy takes about 10 percent off of Floyd.

The reason why they stick with these guys is that those companies have the infrastructure, putting on a ppv card is no easy feat, the marketing the advertising, the promotional actiivity is a business unto itself, as we ve seen floyd and pac s crew are limited to drivers and cooks and guys who cut their steaks.

secondly the big companies have all the hbo dates booked out- and a relationship with hbo, the sponsors and that includes shows like 24/7 which pretty much dosent happen without hbo involvement- which doent happen without the big guys being involved. if pac were to promote himself i daresay he d be fighting on showtime.

all in all- yeah sure- if he were more business savvy he could keep all his money to himself- but then hed be spending his own money promoting himself for one off events- building up companies and offices which only would work 3 , 2 times a year- much better to go with an established company who has the infrastructure. the money which you spend , you proabalby make more and save more by having a top promotional company like golden boy or top rank. we ve seen guys like roy jones and square ring try to do it themselves and they run pretty shoddy promotions which are far from world class. its not an easy thing to do.

its sort of like the film business. alot of people try and do an indie film, and the results are as they are- others go thru the studios- the studios take a large chunk but theyve got the infrastructure, the vfx departments, the prop departments, the sound stages, the contacts to make it all work on a world class level and make more money in the long run than you save.

Manny may pay Arum 22.5 or more percent of say 30 million- but without top rank- he d probably only pull in 15 million or less for his fights without their ppv powers. its an equation which works best for the fighters.
