I'd take Prime Larry over any version of Mike Tyson from 1989 onwards.

Prime Larry v Prime Iron Mike (1986-88)? Iron Mike for me, but I'd give Prime Larry a better chance of winning than most.

What we actually saw was Over the Hill Larry v Prime Iron Mike.

Over the Hill Larry v Past his best Mike? Don't know & don't care.

Larry Holmes was extorted out of retirement by Don King to fight Tyson.
If Al Haymon paid Vitali Klitschko money to fight Wilder in 6 weeks after being retired for 4 years this forum would crash with hate threads about it.
Larry Holmes would jab Tyson to death in his prime.

Holmes is a great fighter, probably greater than iron mike. But h2h Tyson will give him problem each time.
Take what he says with a grain of salt, Holmes is forever salty lol.

Never did rate Holmes as highly as the rest.

Mike would get to him as he's too well rounded for Larry. His movement & speed would cause him fits.

Cus knew that Holmes would have a long lasting career and probably still be champ by the time Mike turned pro. Mike's sole purpose in life from age 13 onwards was to defeat Larry Holmes.

It wasn't so much a fight as it was his future.

Nice. Mike actually says in his book that Cus gave him explicit instructions on how to beat Larry.....

How many would pick Tyson over Holyfield had they never fought?
    I bet just about everyone.

    Forget about their 1988 fight.
Prime Holmes would have a great chance because he would drag Mike past the half way stage.

Tyson could not sustain his intensity over the distance, as Holy and others showed. Holmes had the brains, chin, endurance and reach to drag Mike past that midway point and then sink him.
Once you get Mickey frustrated you have beaten him.

Prime for prime I’d favour Holmes, he had the jab, the footwork, the jaw and the ability to measure distance. There was a very good reason that King kept Tim Witherspoon away from Tyson and that’s because Tim had the style to beat him and that style was very similar to Holmes.

Guy is an old, bitter, idiot. He would have a field day running down the klitschko's whenever anyone asked as well. Everyone should also know what he said on record about Marciano.

It's ironic given what Tex Cobb said graciously about Holmes. And now Holmes cannot return the favor. He is butthurt.

Douglas was a slower, less skilled version of Holmes with nowhere the jab a prime Holmes had! Douglas stopped Tyson. I say a prime Holmes beats a prime Tyson. Holmes was no sloutch in the speed catagory either. One of the best jabs period, decent power and good movement.

I've seen many of Holmes's fight. Prime Holmes vs prime Tyson will always be a Tyson win.

I always hate seeing comments like this.

Even if you truly believe it, it's disrespectful.

And where does it end? Tyson could just claim he wasn't in good condition either and say that if he could beat Holmes when ill/injured/fatigued etc, then he'd beat him when fully fit.
