Tell me who is going to force the pace? Who is going to do that if he's overrated?

Somebody else has the ability to walk through countless flush punches and throw hundreds back? Even with doubts over the legality of these punches. Nobody loads their gloves with jelly, whatever the substance.

Cotto is the best welterweight in the world.

    Skelton? Really?

People seem to be acting like Cotto is some unstoppable force and his last loss was only down to the plant pots glove incident but he has been SERIOUSLY wobbled on several occasions by fighters who were not known for their power so although I accept Jennings is a massive underdog I would not say he has no chance at all, and if he does win I would certainly have him UK top 5 .

You're still asumming with no proof that the gloves were even loaded and what they were loaded with helped Margo punch harder. Those pads could well be illegal on a technicality and have no real effect on the punches thrown. Thats how its starting to read from alot of reports coming out, either way people should to wait until all the avaliable evidence is in before talking about loading gloves and making ridiculous claims about plaster, bricks ect.

I didn't really think he had a brick in there :patsch A substance that would have formed plaster or such.

Margarito is done. If somebody can explain why he needs ANYTHING in his glove for innocent reasons I will be glad to hear this. He was in the wrong. It's just the extent of how wrong we are waiting for.

Until its proven that this was completely innocent and had no effect I will give past opponents any benefit of the doubt. I take that liberty once you've been found with a foreign substance in your glove because as far as I'm concerned there is nothing noble or dignified about that.

It would be a massive win for Jennings and it would mean at least one big money fight for him.I think its a big ask for him but certainly not an impossible fight to win.I dont normally go in for all this p4p stuff but it would put Jennings in the top 5 boxers in the uk if he were to pull it off.

My understanding is that he's accused of having pads protecting his knuckles that were illegal or had something illegal on them. No mention of whether it was done to gain an advantage (or whether it conferred any advantage), whether it was done out of negligence or if he'd/ they'd been badly advised on what was legal. He's obviously not completely innocent to the letter of the law but if what was in the glove was done out of ignorance and had no effect on the power of his punches then he should just serve his ban and be allowed to box again. Until theres ANY proof that the substance actually affected the fight all this talk of loaded gloves and plaster is VERY premature.

I know you didn't think he had a brick in there, but some of the idiots on the GF have been making similar claims....I've heard concrete, cement and even rocks mentioned.

Well...they were loaded alright. The only question is what with? Keeping in mind his own trainer said they were "hard" but not "plaster" at the time (in reference to his hand wrap). It's not looking good, but okay, he should come back after a 2 yr ban if its found it wouldn't effect the fight. There needs to be a serious precedent set down that putting ANYTHING in your gloves is out of the question and will be forcibly punished. If its found to be plaster or such, one way ticket to Mexico or Guatemala to fight, we don't want to see his big head again.

Anyway, as it stands Cotto has one loss with question marks hanging over it. And he beat the man who beat the man. And he's clearly superior to the rest of the welterweight contenders. Not overrated. He's the best of his divison.

    Rocks. That's funny!

That's the main problem with the consensus P4P rankings that you see, which is why you end up with people like Pavlik or Margarito near the top of the top ten when, in reality, they have done nothing to deserve that beyond winning one fight against one opponent.

Jennings wouldn't be in my top 30 (I don't bother ranking more than that) P4P however he beat Cotto, simply because he has achieved nothing anywhere near that level thus far in his career. I would note him as a name to watch and if he were to frank that win with other performances of a high enough level against other opponents, then he would make it in.

Excellent post. I don't much get into these p4p debates because I find them a little tiresome, but the reactive nature in which people compile them these days is silly. Even The Ring have fallen into that trap with Caballero in the top ten.
