Someone graciously posted a a message from Gassiev that his injuries are healing well, dispelling nasty rumors that a great fighter is going to retire. As I pointed out in another thread, he is almost next in line with he IBF to be offered the Hrgovic eliminator. Simple question...you ya got? Gassiev is one of my favorites. Hrgovic not so much, but if he he steps it up, I got nothing against him. I see Gassiev has having more two-fisted power. Both have fine chins, but Hrgovic is more tested at heavy (primarily form the amateur years). Hrgovic is the bigger man, but Gasiev has the championship experience. Neither will seek to make this a fancy boxing match.
In an interview from last year (I think after his last fight) gassiev said he needs at least two years and 4 to 6 fights to get to the level he had before. He lacks confidence in his body and also promotion. I am sad, but I think we have already seen the best of him. If he is on fire then he will be a difficult guy to beat (exclude fury and usyk). He would ko almost the whole top 10 at heavy imo.
