If it is a super close fight that Bute deserves to win, will the judges get it right?

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by Rumsfeld, May 16, 2012.

  1. In a fight like that there is a clear winner though. I'd be shocked to see Froch get the nod on that basis. If it's a close fight with 2 or 3 close rounds then I would suspect it's more likely that judges would score close rounds in Froch's favour.

    Referee- Earl Brown USA

    Judge Benoit Roussel, Canada

    Judge Howard Foster, UK

    Judge Steve Weisfeld, USA.

Seems fair enough although cant say I've seen the referee.

More likely than vice versa in Canada.

OK, in the scenario Rummy described:

Roussel will score it 115-113 Bute
Foster will score it 118-110 Froch
    Weisfeld will score it 114-114.

I Would like to say no bt its quite clear that often home advantage plays a big part. I also think Froch has a style that is easy to score points for. Look at the Ward fight judges clearly gave him rounds on his effort alone.

Even if Froch is having trouble with Bute he will charge forward and throw punches if they are hitting arms and shoulders or getting nullified the crowd will still cheer and his aggression is still evident judges will score this.

How do people think the scores would have been for Kessler had it been in Nottingham?

I dont begrudge Froch a home advantage fight after going on the road.

To suggest that its any different for other home town fighters anywhere else in the world would be disingenuous. Why do you think fighters like to fight at "home"?

Judges are easily swayed. I remember the Dirrell fight when froch had him in the corners & was unloading 6-8 shots & the crowd was going beserk, but when they showed the replay at the end of the round, you could see he was landing nothing.

  11. I think judging would favour Froch, as it would Bute in Canada.

I just don't think a British referee would let Froch be twatted around the ring for three minutes, then get in the way several times to try and help him, then have a 30 second count/get back in the corner episode and then allow him to complete the fight whilst clearly not knowing what day it is.

Bute better make sure that this isn't a 7-5 type of fight or his '0' is going. Even 8-4 might be risky if the rounds are close and people can 'see a way of giving it to the other guy'

But Bute is obviously very confident that is why he took this fight. I also expect him to win comfortably. But still, this is boxing so good luck not getting screwed Bute

I was at the Dirrell fight. And without the benefit of close up camera angles and replays it honestly looked like he bossed the fight and Dirrell did nothing.

The judges were closer than me (during the fight anyway :D), but still, I can see why Froch took the win.

I was gobsmacked when it was announced as an SD. Less so when I got home and re-watched it on TV!
