If it is true that Evander uses PEDs, then he has no heart. Not in the way you think

So how convinced are you? And if he did PED's in professional fights how would this affect his historical ranking?

 

Very interesting thread. And this has always been my main thought too. I would argue that out of all sports, PED's would have the largest positive effect on a boxer in regards to the competition. And this makes me very uneasy.

The thing about Evander is that his heavyweight body just looked unnatural. He looked like a comic book hero. You can see pictures of Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire show the same thing. Where as someone already mentioned, Michael Spinks did not change like that when he moved to heavyweight.

 

I think he probably did. And I'm not outraged by it at all.

Michael Spinks never had a physique like that to start with, so the comparison is not valid.

 

Is that actually true or are you joking? And do you usually take yourself to the limit on bench anyway?

 

Not as convinced we are of the guilt of Vitali, Toney, Botha, Morrison who have proven to be guilts. Not any more convinced of him using PEDs than Briggs, McCline, Wlad, Haye who have tell tale signs

Holyfield probably did use PEDs, Tyson was affiliated with PED guru CHad Nichols himself post prison

Fighters have always tried to gain an edge in anyway they can from training to hypnotizism. When many of the top boxers are taking PEDs would you want to put yourself behind the rest by not doing so or give yourself an edge.

Most fighters take PEDs today, but there is more to being successful than taking PEDs otherwise the local meathead would be world heavyweight champion and not getting knocked out by the regional featherweight champ

 

I think Holyfield used PEDs. That whole "Evan Fields" thing, his symptoms after the Moorer fight said to be consistent with HGH use, some of the things he said after being accused:

"I heard Mike Tyson (my most famous victory) used steroids. I didn't use them and I'm not saying Tyson did, but I heard he used steroids and I didn't want to use them just because he did"

"Oh a doctor said to take this, I can't remember his name, another doctor prescribed me this drug, but he died. I may have used something accidentally."



That said I wouldn't be surprised in the least if a lot of his competitors used them too. I more or less simply expect PED use to be rather frequent at high levels of sports.

 

I'm missing something here. From my experiences it's pretty hard to communicate in general whilst on morphine.

 

We've done this before.

1. "For all we know"...? Was Quick Tillis on PEDs? I doubt it. If Holyfield was using, he had a regular, disclipined regiment that probably began when he used that moose (Lee Haney?) for weight training as he was building up to be a HW. Would you spar with a man who told you that he was on PEDs? I don't think so. Think about it. HW opponents step into the ring and put their lives in jeopardy from the first bell. There's a level of trust there, Chris. When I step into the ring I trust that my opponent doesn't have a horse shoe in his glove. I trust that my opponents isn't on performance-enhancing drugs so that he can hit harder and recover better. If he is, shouldn't I have the right to know so that I can recalibrate the risks?

2. "He was still fighting with physical disadvantages - at heavyweight." If a guy on the street picks a fight with a guy twice his size and is wearing brass knuckles under his mittens, are you going to excuse it?

 

Yeah, a bit like the way you're disrespecting Holyfield.

I think they both probably used PEDS, and I respect both of them.
