All you would hear on this site is just how amazing it is for a fighter to go so long without a defeat.
How amazing it is that say a pavlik could fight most of his fights with serious hand problems and have to adapt constantly in the ring to battle through and put those hand problems to the back of his mind.
And also we would be hearing how great to see them take on and beat the up and coming next big things in lacy, kessler etc and also take care of business against the truly great names like Bernard Hopkins.

But of course Joe isnt American is he? So he cannot expect the same respect that say an American would get for exactly the same achievements.

I take with a pinch of salt most of the time what these so called boxing fans say because people who picked lacy against calzaghe and even said he would finish calzaghe were probably the same ones to right off calzaghe against Kessler and Hopkins.
So what does that say about those so called boxing fans?
It says they dont know much about boxing
What I prefer to do is give respect to fighters for the all round ring craft and savvy with which they ply their trade, whether its the fast hands and great defence of a mayweather, the defence and tactical genius of Hopkins or fabulous achivements of Roy jones jr and all the entertainment he brought to the sport a guy who would have you on the edge of your seat.
I give Hopkins credit for realising against Calzaghe he had to hold and be tactically at the top of his game, he didnt afford Pavlik the same respect and destroyed him.
But Joe Calzaghe and what he has achieved is equally remarkable and I am really looking forward to the Jones fight in a fitting setting MSG
I dont think he will retire, I think he has his eye on the new guys coming through dawson, and co and possibly Hopkins again
Whatever happens Joe Calzaghe is one of the greatest fighters of all time.
There will be no hugging and holding in this fight just out and out attack and that will be great to watch.

    if it was an american

he would have got KO earlier by RJJ in the 90's, or get dealt with by Hopkins in the 90's
or Toney would have ****ed him up in the 90's

he wouldnt have fought euro competition he would have fought tough US opposition

dude just dont take them seriously...we know most them dont like leaving there comfort zone...plus...look at the turnouts at venues! and still they sit behind a computer and talk as if they been professionals. calzaghe is a hard working guy ..people seem to forget boxing is a violent sport he has every right to fight for highest money.

B*ll*cks. You lot declared that hugger Hopkins an ATG ages ago and he`s one of the most boring fighters ever. He should sign up for the WWF.

fair enough, if calzaghe would have faced american/tougher opposition earlier on in his career he may have a loss or 2 on his record, however he may not have done you just can't make that statement with such certainty. for me james toney would have never "****ed him up" as you put it

Calzaghe was high risk low reward for the likes of RJJ in the late '90s. Would have been a great fight back then, but it didn't really make sense for Roy or for Frank Warren.

Joe was equally dodged, do you think the promoters of Jones, Hopkins etc would want their human cash machines to go into the ring with an unbeaten fighter, Nigel Benn and steve collins actually said they were glad they had retired before calzaghe got going and they were great fighters Benn would put the fear of god into any fighter and yet he could see what calzaghe was all about! I dont think Frank Warren helped Joes career and Joe may already realise that, but I still maintain that if Joe was american he would be hailed a great.

Tell me why we should give credit to guys who fight on networks that we don't get, against guys we don't know, for a lightly regarded WBO belt? Joe beat Lacy and got tons of respect from Americans. Look at how much money he's going to get to fight Jones in America, on an American network. I have no idea what the hell you guys want.

While we hype bums like Lacy and Pavlik, you guys hype bums like Hatton, Haye, and Khan.
