Great post. I was beginning to think that it was illegal on here for anyone to have anything sensible to say about Calzaghe.

If Calzaghe had been American he still wouldn't have been anywhere near Toney's weightclass at any relevant point in his career.

If he was American he would have losses on his record since the best fighters fight here and eventually Joe would have found a fighter who had the style to beat him. He is not unbeatable like some claim. I think no fighter can goe undefeated at this day in age since they are so many good fighters out there with different styles. Only people who retire undefeated like lets say a certain runner are duckers and cherry pickers.

Our European brothers here dont understand that in the US we demand that our fighters fight people that can beat them, if they dont they get labeled bums and we forget about them...The fact is we have had plenty of fighters that ran thier records to 35-0 + and didnt fight anyone...but you dont know who they are because we srote them off for fighting bums:good

This is all bull****! If Joe were an American the fans would here would probably be sucking his dick even more than they did Kelly Pavlik. American fans are very fickle and they love their white hopes. This is coming from an American fan BTW, as I have to respect Calzaghe's 20+ defenses as I respect B-hop's 20 title defenses in a comparably soft division.

There were plenty of people on here swinging off Pavlik's nuts until two weeks ago, so let's not kid ourselves.

Joppy would have been a pretty though fight for Joe back in the mid 1990's, problem is Joppy was at his best at 160. Echols would have been a really though fight for Joe, Echols hits really hard, maybe harder then anyone Joe has ever faced, in fact Hopkins stated that Echols hit harder then anyone he had ever fought and that included Jones. Both fights would have been in Joes top 5 toughest fights to this point which is the problem and the reason that many of us dont think as highly of Joe. Im not saying that he would have lost those fights but they would have been tougher then the ones he was taking at the time.

Your so right :good it works both ways, Hopkins said in an interview he didnt think he should have to travel to uk years ago to fight Calzaghe because he thought he was the man etc
Or you could look at it this way ...maybe Hopkins didnt fancy facing an unbeaten tough fighter and the same for jones and others.
Just because someone is european doesnt mean they couldnt outbox an american fighter, examples are felix sturm outboxing oscar delahoya and the judges saving the day by awarding the fight to oscar and saving his big match up with floyd mayweather
You hear people on here talk about riddick bowe as a great heavyweight but they seem to conveniently forget that he trashed the title rather than face lennox lewis.
Why is this forgotton???? I wonder
So it works both ways, all fighters are carefully managed only a stupid promoter and manager would throw his fighter in with the best fight after fight that will only end in a short career examples being Lacy & pavlik
Promoters look out for themselves first then their fighters, and Joe and Roy realise that going this alone was the only way this could happen.
So if Joe is being accused of ducking and getting decisions etc then the same can be said of any fighter.
Remember Joe cortez treatment of hatton gainst mayweather he didnt allow any holding wahtsoever or any inside work, but this disappeared when Hopkins faced calzaghe he allowed holding the entire fight.
Like I said it works both ways
