I regard it as a sucker-punch, but, in those circumstances, it's no big deal to me. It's not the first time Floyd's smacked his opponent's when they haven't been ready, and if people continue to give him the opportunity, it certainly won't be his last. I know the Ortiz incident was unfortunate, but it was legal, and the blame mostly rests on the shoulder of Ortiz for being ridiculously naive, and Cortez for not having proper control of the fight.
i dont understand how Ortiz didnt get up...i mean Berto and him were letting go HAMMERS way harder than that one two....i mean i understand it dropping him...but i still feel he ould have gotten up...i dont even think Floyd thought he would stay down.
it cant come when someone is in front of you with there hands up, the only one a sucker at the point is the fool thats about to get his mouth cracked.that im not ready **** or i was not looking **** is a no go.you get from the back or the side its some sucka **** all day, but if you get me from the front then what the hell was i thinking :huh ok the left hook lands but damn yo:huh pause and then a right hand.naw victor was looking for some kind of help and floyd is the pro and it showed. victor earned that shot anyways well all know that as well.somethings should not be debated like this ****.
joe said fight when it was time to fight, what more does he need to do ? ask victor if he was ready ? i mean really ! cortez says fights and the only one wanting to fight is floyd.
He did say fight, yes. But that doesn't mean he had control of what was going on. After the headbutt, he doesn't make any of the fighters return to their corners. He's holding Ortiz by the arm and letting him wonder back and forth to Mayweather, hugging him, kissing him and ****. The ****? In a situation like that where tensions have reached boiling point - where one man has just commited a dangerous act and the other one could be pissed off enough to return the favour - you're letting them roam the ring freely? And then, when he makes them come back in the middle, he's doing his usual mumbling whilst frantically looking outside of the ring (like he's after help), without any care for what the two fighters are doing. He has no control. If Mayweather decided to kick Ortiz in the balls, he would have missed it. Dude was all over the place. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy79DHouajA[/ame]
I call it taking advantage of your opponent's mistake. When you're in that ring, your life is on the line. You've had months to train and to get yourself as mentally sharp as you can be. There should be no reason for you to take your eyes off your opponent or take him lightly. And if you use a dirty tactic, be prepared to receive the same treatment. Ortiz ****ed up. That's all there is to it. If he had been able to avoid that two-piece, maybe Floyd gets really affected by that headbutt as the fight continues. Maybe Ortiz opens up that cut on Floyd's lip even further...which could lead to a TKO in the later rounds. If you're gonna cheat, do it right. Again, Ortiz ****ed up.
People are only pissed that ortiz didn't get up. Floyd has done this move many times in fights as so has a lot of other boxers. The funny thing is the commentators on those occasion praised mayweather for it, but when ortiz never got up they got pissed and looked at the wrong person to blame.
Hook/Cross or 3/2 combo. There is nothing else to call it. The only thing that makes it stand out is that it ended the fight.
This What was ortiz doing? Hes in a boxing ring with the p4p champ, PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES or your gonna get hurt Especially if you try to cheat beforehand Ortiz deserved it and it was legal
There is a difference between a sucker punch and a cheap shot, imo. A sucker punch is illegal; a shot coming when your opponent doesn't expect it, and shouldn't have to expect it, e.g., what Butler did to Grant. A cheap shot is legal, albeit tasteless; when your opponent doesn't expect it but probably should, even when its coming at an unwritten rule moment, e.g., at the opening bell (where tapping gloves is common). My opinion on the FMJ thing is that both were wrong. Ortiz shouldn't have did what he did, and FMJ should have been the bigger man - he does go on and on about how he is the sport's ambassador, and how he's trying to clean it up, after all - and not retaliated. The thing about Floyd is, he just can't be real. He never really has given a definitive answer on why he did what he did, aside from saying "protect yourself at all times" and "the ref said fight". Why couldn't he just say, "I was pissed, it was a heat of the moment thing"?
I think Ortiz was more shocked than hurt. That one shot Berto put Ortiz down with was harder than both of those wide open Floyd shots put together. I think he was shocked, and holding out hope that something illegal had just happened, and Mayweather would be DQ'd.
i was honestly pissed off over the mayweather oritz "sucker punch" and felt robbed for paying for the ppv. after the fight i swore i would never purhcase a mayweather ppv again. but in hindsight i think it was more payback than anything. oritz committed a blatant foul that could've ended the fight just as easily had it cut mayweather bad enough. i would've much rather seen the fight take it's natural course, but at the same time ortiz was asking for it.
