I think he would be the top cruiserweight in the world. He would move up, win some fights and get a shot at one of the Klits. I'd give him a shot against the pre Manny Steward version of Wlad, but the current, utlra conservative version would be too difficult a mountain to climb.

I will credit Jess Willard as being a very difficult fighter to beat on the inside. He was immensly strong and had gripping techniques that were matched by virtually no one, with the exception of perhaps Jack Johnson. As seen however, this is not the way to beat Jack Dempsey and nor is it the method that the Klitschko's typically employ. Wlad and Vitiali are primarily outside fighters, who effectively use their reach to land the jab and right cross. I think that these attributes provide a greater challenge to someone like Dempsey than what Willard brought to the table.. For the record, I am not denying Willard credit as being a good fighter, but I can't see the similarities between him and the Klit brothers as going beyond their size dimensions - something that the Klits utilize far better anyway.

Absolutely ridiculous. The Klitschkos have nothing in common with Jess Willard except height. Both are defensive geniuses next to Willard & both are much faster, especially Wlad.

****in' nostalgic idiots on this page I swear...................the other day some dumbass was saying Primo Carnera fought very much like Wladimir Klitschko. :patsch Hendo was the dumbass I believe.................****in' Primo "Circus Freak" Carnera fought more like Valuev than either Klitschko.

Good post but let me add Vitali doesn't a better job on the inside than Wlad does.

He would **** up the Cruiserweight division and probably be able to make a good crack at the heavies like adamek is. He'd be able to bulk up a lot easier for it too, given modern nutrition.

But then again a guy like Dempsey could never exist in today's America/ world- not enough poverty, not enough opportunities to get fights in on the street, etc.

You were 7, hence you remember him as being huge, when I went to a farm as a child I remember the horses and cows looking gigantic, I still imagine in my head they are huge

I think Dempsey's skillset is limited, and I think he was somewhat exposed in his own time pre-Tunney by solid unspectacular opperators.

Wlad/Vitali would not only be the 2 biggest stronger biggest hitting men he met, they'd also be 2 of the most skilled, not to mention the best longest jabs. Haye would be the fastest man he ever faced and the hardest hitting. Adamek would be 1 of the most complete fighters he'd faced. Solis would be 1 of the most skilled operators he'd ever faced, and we know he struggled with all the slicker opponents he faced.

Going down a level from this I think he could have some success, he'd need to bulk up though and fight less recklessly

I'm sorry but someone has to say it. :yep

Jack Dempsey was a great fighter but he would be lucky to even make the minimum weight at Heavy. Part of what we all remember about him being so savage against Willard is because he jumped back on Willard after each knockdown due to the rules of the day. Fighters like Marciano & Dempsey wouldn't fare too well against the better skilled, larger Heavys of today.

You weren't missing much, many a time as a kid we played football (soccer) in the farmers fields, many the time I would dive to save the ball to find my hand or worse my face going flying into a cow pat :|

Dempsey would annihilate a guy like Haye who's gotten knocked in the amateurs. The guy has possibly even worse defense than Jack, no stamina, and a shaky chin. Against Wlad he would have a puncher's chance, against Vitali he would probably get bombed out at long range.

Fatty solis would probably throw in the towel against a guy like Dempsey, guy is a disgrace. Adamek would be a good fight for him, guy can box well and take a punch, has solid lateral movement too.

If Dempsey was a bulked up explosive 220lb HW he'd have his fair shair of success and some failure. He'd have a legit shot of rushing Wlad at 220lbs due to styles, I'm not sure he does as well against Vitali but Vitali's low hands and his style of leaning straight back may present opportunities

I actually think Dempsey and Haye are similar in style (and chin), although Haye is a right hander where as Dempsey is a left hooker. Haye also tries to be slick with his radar defense, which is good outside but not at close range
