Their hasn't been one, but that's exactly the point I'm trying to Exactly my point. If he don't have it at one weight, then it is time to move up to seek one else where. If it isn't one there, then dominate that weight class. It's better then staying content with excuses. Which is what I stated in my previous post, but you chose to ignore that. He have to seek the top opponents out that would fight him instead of staying content with fighters he knows he can beat. Andre Ward went up to fight the top dog at the next weight. Why? It was the next step to cement his name in boxing history. What has GGG done?
What ATG is at 168? You say if there isn't one there, then dominate the weight class. Isn't that exactly what 3G is trying to do? Ward moved up because he admitted he was having trouble making 168. Too many times posters act like guys move up in weight for "challenges", which is utterly wrong. Most guys move up because they: 1. can't make weight 2. got KTFO of their former division 3. want to title hop (Ala' Broner) 4. money fight You say he's content fighting guys he knows he can beat? That's essentially the case for most a-side fighters who have the ability to pick and choose opponents.
There wasn't one at 168lbs, at least not yet determined. We will find out though during the H of F induction weekend this year. None the less the competition during the super six tournament was better then GGG whole career...lol. Even if Ward move was a weight issue, he still went for the top dog, (Kovalev) which most likely will be a ATG himself. Regardless it's saying a great deal about what he thinks about his legacy. He could have moved up and fought the bottom of the barrel. Your right about A sided fighters picking and choosing who they want to fight, but most also chose to challenge themselves in the process to achieve greatness. At least once in there career. Yet I have to ask myself. Is GGG really a A sided fighter? Other than his KO streak he hasn't fought a A listed fighter yet. 10yrs as a pro, 35 yrs old and the clock is still ticking. Unifying the titles at MW, cool I get that. Is it a great achievement yes it is, but don't use that as a excuse to stop you from testing yourself. They say he hits like a light heavy weight. Ok, then move up and dominate super MW, capture some titles there, and have titles at both MW and SMW. Take a step further, unify the titles at SMW since doing it at MW is on pause. The challenge is out there, but no. He rather fight the smaller, 2 weight classes below him, Kell Brooke...lol. Come on man. I said it before and will say it again. If GGG retires or passed away tomorrow, what would his legacy look like? What would he be remembered for? He would be remembered as the guy who was TRYING to unify the MW titles. The end.
* So you are thinking this is kinda a close'ish fight with Jacobs I see, that's cool.... so when Jacobs doesn't last the distance, I assume you will be giving Golovkin props? Considering he would have exceeded your perception of him? ------ Andre Ward was competing at a weight he had cleaned out for years, that was getting hard for him to make (hell, he even openly admits now that even making 175 isn't all that easy) with no real obvious challenger to him, and was left wishing upon a star that an average seller, and an average sized middleweight would move up to fight him, and when that didn't happen he made the decision to move up. Awesome. Props to Ward. Golovkin doesn't even weigh 168 (the weight you want him to move to) a MONTH out from his fights, he hasn't cleaned out his division yet (still titles to get), is on the verge of the biggest fights of his division (fights that, barring Ward at 168, are bigger than anything waiting for him at 68) he is aiming for a record (wants to break Hopkins title defense record), and he is on the verge of the biggest possible fight available to him probably in his entire career at any weight (Canelo), once he unifies his division, a completely understandable goal for any professional fighter, and gets the scalps of the best in his division.... like Ward did, and he starts having trouble making 160, like Ward started having issues with 68, THEN he will move up. That there is this huge uproar over that is absolutely insane lol. You do realize, that almost every case of weight jumping you can provide, outside of generational p4p talents (pac, Mayweather, RJJ), are cases in which the fighters weight pretty much became a major factor on to why they actually moved up right? This idea that all these fighters are moving up left and right because they are headhunting the biggest and most challenging scalps is such a fantasy lol. Ward knows G is small for 168. Froch knows G is small for 168. They all know G is small for 168. Golovkin is a middleweight, his body is suited for middleweight, he is a skilled, pressure fighting power puncher, not a speedy, athletic based fighter with a tricky style that will benefit him against larger opponents. His style and effectiveness if negated quite a bit by size and durability. So why is there a desire to see him fight guys that negate his physical talents of someone his size against people his size (natural), just because they are bigger.... and see him become a win some lose some fighter at divisions he shouldn't be at in the first place? Everyone knows G is a middleweight, yet want to crucify him for wanting to stay there until he accomplishes his goals there and his body is ready to move up. Yes, fighters move up in weight all the time. And Golovkin will eventually move up in weight. That people are so pissed he doesn't do it before he secures the biggest fight possible of his career, is insane. ----------------------------------
