That's not his job at all. His job is to show up with his A game and take those belts from GGG. Not saying it's gonna happen but that is his job.
those haters are real quiet when it comes to wilders resume tho, like that fraud dontae's boxing nation, video after video slating golovkin's resume but not a word on the bum's that wilder is fighting...
What puzzles me is that people keep saying that GGG was letting Brook hit him in the face. While he gave Monroe a couple of free shots, I never saw that with Brook. Brook was dropping some nice shots on that mug and GGG didn't like it at all.
I agree that GGG was getting hit by Brook and he didn't like it but tbh it was probably out of sheer embarrassment. Brook never looked like denting GGG but every time Brook hit him GGG started getting angrier and wilder with his punching technique. Brook was there to make him look good but he made him look human and clumsy.
I'm glad that you give Brook credit,to read Gilfoid who keeps bangin on about Brook running the whole fight is utter garbage, eye injury aside Brook took GGGs shots better than anyone and like you say out boxed Gennady by relying on his skills as a boxer, just a shame for Brook that he felt he needed to take that fight in the first place, looking at Eubanks next opponent tells us everything we need to know about how serious he ever was?
Of course in the usual sense it would be his job to bring his A game and do what he can take those belts. But this is no ordinary fighter he is up against. Look, Jacobs is a decent man, I'm sure he would like to see his wife and kids at the end of the night. The best situation he can hope for is going home with some swelling, a black eye and bruised pride. Maybe as a bonus last a good few rounds so he can tell his grandchildren a few tales in the future that he was in the same ring with GGG and stood up to him for a considerable time. All in all, that would be a good night for Jacobs, that there is no doubt. However If he were to do as you suggested and try and be the hero for the night, then we are talking about more than some good boy punishment. We are entering into long term damage territory that nobody wants to see. We already know that Nick Blackwell has now had to have half of his skull removed because he fought he could do more than he was capable of and took the heroes route. Brook was few rounds away from permanently losing his eye before his corner saw sense to took him out of there.
Brook gave a good accounting of himself in that fight. I know he was injured in second or third round but I think his main fault was that he backed up too much. When the decision came as to who was gonna back up, he is the one who chose to do so. GGG is a monster coming forward but you can make him seriously respect your and box in circles or backing up then there is a real good chance of beating him.
First Nick Blackwell wasn't fighting GGG and eye damage happens to a lot of fighters who didn't fight GGG. Ray Leonard and Margarito. Who else have GGG damaged like that? Any part of their bodies for that matter. GGG ain't knocking off body parts like he got hatchets for hands. He just hits hard and so does Jacobs. I am leaning on a GGG win but it's only because Jacobs chin is suspect. If Jacobs chin shows some grit, we might witness the taming of the shrew.
GGG did in the Brook fight exactly what he did in the Wade fight. Walk forward and give his opponent zero credit. Unlike Wade though, Brook actually had some skill. Brook did exactly what he should have in that fight which was throw the kitchen sink at GGG to stop the bigger man from walking him down. It didn't work obviously but at least he identified a gameplan unlike Wade. I wouldn't expect GGG to come in like that against Jacobs though. Not at all. Even if it means putting on a slightly more boring fight by playing boxer puncher instead of punching plodder.
Brook gave a great account of himself and I might even fancy him against the other guys at 160 but really GGG showed why Brook wasn't a middleweight,if anything though Brook showed the way for guys like Jacobs,Canelo n Saunders by showing em up for avoiding him,I'm just glad that Jacobs has taken this cause I like him as a person and a commentator
