Do you think he could compete at 175? or even 168? This man is very talented and the only thing i see stopping him is his diet. Comments?

Nah, I think it's too late for him. I'm sure he gets pretty high in weight when he's not fighting and losing all that weight at his age wouldn't be good for him. Just look at what happenede to Chris Byrd.

He should have stayed at crusierweight, but now no droping weight is not good for a boxer.

We had a thread the other day about fighters we think ought to retire. People brought James up several times. All the while I kept thinking: "No, he doesn't need to retire. He just needs to move his training camp out of Dunkin Donuts, and into a gym!" He might do well at 175, but no lower at his age.

Theres no way on this planet Toney can make 75 let alone 68. He outgrew that weight a loooong time ago and at his age thats not advisable. Either way he never had the dedication to make weight and apparently suffers from an eating disorder that Tim Witherspoon also has. Even as a young kid the guy was a solid 200lb`der in college. How he ever made 160 is beyond me..

At this point weight is not Toney's only problem. He is old and battle worn. Waaaaay past his prime, and has been injured too much. Even if there was some miracle diet that got him down to 175 without killing him, his speed, reflexes and stamina would be significantly less than they were before

Hell no, too old. Plus the weight loss would probably take a toll on his body also. at his age he is not going to be healthily weigh what he did 10 and 15 years ago. 200 would be an absolutely ideal weight for him. It"ll never ****ing happen though

Toney couldn't even make cruiserweight at this stage.

He should be able to make cruiser, if he really had the discipline, but asking him to shift 60lbs is unrealistic at this stage. If you could transplant Bernard Hopkins' mentality into him for one training camp he could make 200. He's plain flabby.

Toney is the most naturally gifted boxer of the last 15 years in boxing. I have said this before in many threads. I believe he is also the greatest boxer of the last 15 years ahead of RJJ even though RJJ beat him.

The thing about Toney is, he just doesnt like to train. Imagine toney with the discipline of bernard hopkins, its incredible to think about. Name me one middleweight that can go to heavy and compete with good heavies when they are out of shape even at heavy.

Cruiserweight is the only possibility, and it's not one that I'm going to entertain. Toney will NEVER see anything below Heavyweight in his Boxing lifetime again. Secondly, it would likely be stripping too much body mass off to even be effective, unless he did it over a long period of time in a healthy manner. Doing it in one training camp would just leave him drained.

he definatly aged better than RJJ..roy was the victim of his own physical gifts..but if toney could have stayed in and around 175 he would still be a major player...but thats the same "if" that could be applied to mike tyson
