When Chavez stepped up to welter and faced whitaker, the result was a unpopular draw. Most thought whitaker should have got the win. So what if Chavez was to meet a prime version of Simon Brown? Different styles here, and brown could punch, so could he actually win this and perhaps even stop the iron chinned Chavez? Who takes it?
Whitaker won the fight. That aside Brown was a more dangerous matchup. A bigger man, a very good boxer and a serious puncher .. could have been a classic.
Serious indeed, he was battering norris all over the ring. I actually think brown could have stopped Chavez. JCC wasn't a spring chicken at that time and was starting to get caught more, if Brown off loads and catches him walkin in , he could start to break him down. It's not hard to imagine him been stopped on his feet late on.
Glad to see a non HW thread lol. But seriously. For me this comes down in the end to durability for me. Chavez was sliding Brown was an excellent fighter who could hit hard. In the end Im gonna slightly favor JCC durability to take a hotly contested decision
Brown would have beat the hell out of Chavez. Too strong. Too big. And Chavez ain't coming close to hurting him. Hell Brown would have stopped Chavez.
It seems to me, that as Chavez grew older he was involved in more and more disputed decisions and controversial ones. Whitaker, Taylor 1,randal 2. So you could be right there.
Simon Brown was a counter puncher and heavy puncher and Rosario was very similar style. However this fight would be held in 93 and Brown would be 12 lbs heavier. Brown too many natural advantage at 147 lbs. Brown do what Rosario couldn't do and stops Chavez in 12 rds.
Brown is somewhat overrated. He was schooled badly by Buddy McGirt. However, Chavez was no welterweight. Brown by decision.
