Waitwaitwait.........are you trying to tell me a network saw a fighter they liked and wanted to back? And SHOWCASED him? I refuse to believe it. Who would do such a thing??? And why?? So ****ing what? Jesus christ, aren't there bigger things (even in boxing) that one could complain about? Not every prospect pans out as expected. Nothing new there, regardless of sport.
Jermaine Taylor could have been something special if he had a trainer that could have took his speed, power and athleticism, and accentuated those gifts instead of making him such a basic jab orientated fighter. Go watch the the first 5 rounds of the Froch and Pavlik fights and you can see this guy had the natural talent to go as far as he wanted to go. its like nobody taught him how to remain calm in the ring, nobody taught him how to box and move, nobody taught him not to stand infront of his opponent and absorb punches with a half assed guard. This guy who I've seen video's of how strong his legs are, literally fights in cement. Flat footed with his back foot positioned in such a way where he's not gettin any leverage on his shots nor is he positioning himself to dodge anything. Its a shame really. Perhaps if he would have gotten wtih Kronk or Roach earlier, he could have been a more dynamic fighter. I dont think Jermain Taylor ever reached his full potential.
You can certainly say that HBO pushed Taylor but why is this used as criticism? They have to support prospects. If they don't, where will the next batch of stars ever come from? And why is this criticism only applied to Taylor when there are countless guys who could be labelled HBO hypejobs? Broner, Jacobs, Garcia, Ortiz and many others are in the position Taylor was in. I think it's a bizarre criticism for a start. HBO need to back fighters and give them exposure and do it all the time. Strangely, only Taylor seems to be criticized for it. The funny thing is, only truly biased people would say that he lost all three easily. He simply didn't. You could argue he won all three, won two and lost one, won one, lost one and drew one, or even say that he lost all three. NO matter what your opinion is, they were all undoubtedly close fights. It's just strange how people obsess over him being an HBO hypejob.
Exactly. You've been a boxing fan for a long time and in the years you've watched the sport, you will have seen countless fighters be built up by TV networks. It happens with HBO, Showtime, Sky Sports, BBC, Channel 5, RTL and numerous other TV stations. It's how the business works. I don't understand why Taylor is the only fighter to receive criticism because a network backed him.
Showcased him? trying shaft over a long reighing champion then somehow getting a draw over Wright is not a showcase of the guy's abilities it's more a showcase of HBO's agenda.
All true. Had all the natural talent to be special but the iq of a rock. Flat footed, no lateral movement, terrible defense, seldom sat dowm on his punches, etc.
You made this thread as an excuse to why Flopkins lost...That HBO somehow cheated Flopkins out of an undeserved W. I see your agendaatschatsch
have you been living under a rock?? people have been calling him HBO hypejob for years you dumb *******
