There's no Hopkins 'angle' Taylor is getting talked about a lot with his recent fight and now was a good a time as any to speak out about JT's career from my point of view.
Bull ****. JT is on some low key ass ShowBox (Sho's "smallest time" show) against unheard of fighters, to which some folks wished him luck in a rebuilding sense, BUT you feel the need to talk about some JT fights from like 6 or 7 years ago.....
Not at all the guy beat Hopkins twice and was beating those white boys ass until he got knocked the hell out
All I said was that he should have taken what he got and retired with his health in good shape and that his comeback was foolish considering as a fighter he never once showed the qualities that would have allowed him to fight at an advanced age.
This is the only one that I didn't agree with. I think this may be the most boring championship fight that I ever watched but I can't see how anyone had Jermain Winning that fight. I thought they got it right in both hopkins fights and the Wright fight could have gone either way. Either way you see the decisions, not too many guys out there can go head to head with hall of famers and stay competive. No amount of hype will give a guy the skills that he needs. For the most part bhop and wright beat everyone they fought extremly clearly.
I was just kidding man. Truth=I just came in here to look at your avatar. :deal (then while I's here, thought I'd up my post count by ****in' with you a tiny bit )
Even back then I was calling him a hype job. I noticed things when he fought. Like, his hand speed being over rated. His power being way over rated, his defense sucked, and the fact that his handlers wouldn't let him near any of the top contenders at the time who still had a pulse, Eastman, Allen, Solimon, etc. He was finally put in with a shopworn William Joppy, who was absolutely horrible by then. On the way up I also noticed that Taylor repeatedly couldn't KO junior middleweights and welterweights, and also that guys he did stop, had been stopped quicker by other fighters. Kassim Ouma stopped Alfredo Cuevas in 4 rounds at 154, yet Cuevas went the distance with Taylor at 160, even though Taylor had to outweigh him by 15 pounds in the ring. How he was handled on the way up point to his handlers knowing he wasn't that good. He was almost embarassed last night, by a guy who was scared to let his hands go and tentative. It was laughable hearing Taylor say he would beat Hopkins 100 out of 100 times. Hopkins would seriously hurt Taylor if they fought right now.
:good I believe all these 4 fights could go either way and none of them shold be described as blatant robbery. The problem is that in those fights judges always been on Taylor's side. At Spinks fight even Stewart was screaming like crazy before 12 that they are losing the fight.
You know, I used to believe this too. Until I saw training clips of him and Steward working on things all camp in preparation for the Wright fight, only to watch JT go in a basic ignore his corner's advice for 12 rounds. Same in the Spinks/Ouma fights too. Then you'd see clips of him and his old trainer (after firing Steward) working on things, only to see the same pattern. I really like JT as a 'talent'. But, the truth is, he's just not a 'smart' fighter. He doesn't appear to thnk his way around the ring, nor follow corner instructions (at all). Didn't set up shots, exploit opponents weaknesses, nor really seem to have a 'plan' in the ring, other than to just punch. It's kinda sad too. At one point, I thought he had a Hearns-level (as far as effectiveness) jab that could control anyone from 154-160. And to his credit, that jab took him all the way to being the undisputed MW champ, and then a great fight against Winky Wright (top 5 p4p at the time). He just never got better. But, IMO, that seems to fall mostly on JT, not his corner.
J Taylor seems a very nice guy. He was placed very high and fell very far, but you cant help but wish him well because he seems such a good guy. Even though Taylor was found wanting, he still fought a good run of fighters ie Hopkins, Hopkins again, Wright. Then he had a couple of lesser fights where he didnt look so good and then fought Pavlik, Pavlik again, Lacy, Froch and then Abraham. Taylor deserves credit even in defeat
The Trinidad fight (2005) was Wright's 1st fight ever at 160. Trinidad had been at MW since 2001. Just saying.
