What if Walcott fought today, and was the size of the average modern HW (Let's say, 6'4 220-250 lbs) but kept his technical skills and power. How would he do?

If he was 6' 4'' and 220-250 lbs he would be almost unbeatable.

Fighters only develop what Walcott had if they are acustomed to fighting physicaly superior opponents.

    I agree with Janitor.

If he just simply had boxing as a full-time gig and had good nutrition and training, he'd be almost unbeatable. He'd win most, lose some maybe, but I can't see anyone beating him except Wlad. The current cruisers? Sheeeit. He'd be moving up to fight the big boys for big money before too long.

if he was 6ยด4 and 220-250 he would not be that fast, and agile so he would not have been the same walcott.

Im not a fan of super heavies. They just big and awkard and not much else. Lewis is supposed to be an authentic great but did he ever even produce a great fight?

I prefer guys with great craft and skills like Walcott and Holmes.

I think yes he produced MULTIPLE great fights. See his fights against Mercer and Briggs

Lewis never fought like he did against Mercer before or after. Was a decent enough fight. Its hamperd by only being ten rounds. An extra 2 rounds would of made the outcome a lot clearer.

    (Let's say, 6'4 220-250 lbs)
    He'd be Tony Thompson

A better question: What would JJW do in today's Heavyweight division fighting at 210 lbs? I think he could carry the weight and with his skills and power would do very well. If Haye can go the distance with Vlad, I'm sure Joe could!

Walcott -just as he was- would be an absolute terror today. Walcott was a slick counter puncher, he had no problem with giants then and he'd have no problem wth giants now. Granted the giants are heavier but their no bigger. What does it matter if the same guy needs to buy a bigger pair of pants?

Take a look at JJW as the referee in Lewiston again. He is not dwarfed in any way by Liston and Ali. He may have been shorter, but the man was bull shouldered. He dominated Ten Hoff on camera, but couldn't get the necessary traction on a rain slicked canvas for producing a knockout. Still, we see him demonstrate effectiveness against the classiest tall HW of the postwar period. If Toney could be big enough to play with modern sized heavyweights, then the larger Walcott would be able to do it in an age where minimizing weight wasn't regarded to be of such premium importance.

Jersey Joe iced johnny shkor a heavyweight the size of bonecrusher smith proving slick old JJW could really drop any sized carcus just the way he was. Two handed power and superior skill is a winning conbination in any era.

Even if Joe was the same size he was in the 50s he'd still win. Most of the modern heavyweights are carrying alot of fat that they need to lose. These guys who weigh 240 pounds could mostly stand to lose weight and they are huffing and puffing after 4-5 rounds. Even Wlad has poor stamina, he couldn't even last 5 round against brewster without getting tired. A guy like walcott would wear him down over 5 and knock him out.

Walcott was slicker and hit much hard than Fast Eddie Chamber and was much more experienced and craftier and much heavily gunned up...he would score a lot of wins over most of the big guys and give the Klitschko's fits
