If JMM beats Casamayor while Calzaghe beats up a faded legend, should JMM jump to #2?

That means you: Pugilist, TFFP, China_Hand_Joe, Smiffy etc.

If you want to comment, leave all of the biased dog**** you smear across every thread outside, and just please keep it to legitimate reasoning for this one. If you disagree, as you automatically will, just explain why. This thread is not an attack on Joe, I genuinely think JMM should go to #2 if he beats Casa (and that is a big IF!), and I will put down my reasons.

    So,

right now Calzaghe is #2 and JMM is #3.

JM Marquez wants another crack at the world p4p#1 fighter, Pacquiao. So, when Pac moved up to lightweight, Marquez moved up too. Marquez took on the toughest guy available (Casa is The Ring champion and holds a UD over Nate Campbell), who had just stopped Michael Katsidis. Marquez is a natural featherweight, and Katsidis is possibly the hardest hitter in the division, and a big lightweight. Marquez is taking a HUGE risk here, in order to force Pacquiao back into the ring with him to prove who is better between those two warriors.

If Marquez does win he will become a three-weight world champion, and a SUPERFIGHT decider with Pacquiao will be sealed.

Compare this to what Calzaghe is doing just now.

Taking a fight with a guy who is more shot than Sonny Corleone, who hasn't fought top 10 ranked opposition in FOUR YEARS, was sparked twice when he was still mixing in good company, and has had those 4 years to age and decline since then. The result is academic, the arrangement is a money-making exercise, and the fight itself is a sorry mismatch.

Is there recent choices enough to say JMM should go above Calzaghe IF he wins? Or should Calzaghe hold onto his position even if Marquez achieves something special and gets the decider with Pacquiao, while Calzaghe is slapping around a shot legend for money??

I think I know the answer already as the Calzaghe freakboys would vote for him in a best ass poll with Jennifer Lopez, but I throw it open as I think it's a legitimate question- what do you think good people of ESB??

yes especiallly if he stops or wide ud casa. then it would be a very BIG marquez-pacquiao 3 where the #1 and #2 p4p fighters and a type of lightweight unification would happen.

Same here, as soon as I heard he was fighting Jones I moved Marquez up.

I felt the exact same way when I heard it was to be Calzaghe-Jones and not Calzaghe-Pavlik. So so disappointed.

Yeah, in defense of Marquez he wanted a third fight with Pacman but he couldnt get it. So so disappointed in that too.

I think Joe is p4p a better fighter than JMM, but I wouldn't complain too much if The Ring took this step. Joe shouldn't have took on a clearly shot fighter when he is p4p#2. Marquez is risking it all. That must mean something in boxing.

If JMM beats Casa he is #1 P4P hands down. He was even with PacMan but beating Casa is way more of an achievement than beating a punching bag named diaz.

If JMM does beat Casa then there is no doubt he moves up to #2 P4P. Credit goes to JMM for taking the Casa fight in the first place. After initially calling for a 3rd fight with Pac he realized he wouldn't get it so soon so he decided to earn it in the ring like a true fighter and step up and fight the #1 in the division above.

imo casa is as shot as rjj. knocking out katsidis, after nearly getting wiped out himself does'nt convince me otherwise. i'm expecting jmm to go in there and laydown a asskicking on casamayor.

Its really hard to say, right now its arguable who should be the #2 p4p but the ring says JC is. Now considering their opponents, their stocks couldnt be raised any higher then it is now, but it can lower depending their performance.

Say if JMM easily defeats Casamayor and JC struggles with RJJ but both get wins, then possibly JMM should be moved ahead of JC.
