If JMM beats Casamayor while Calzaghe beats up a faded legend, should JMM jump to #2?

    It is indeed.

Some (maybe much) of the rancor may have arisen from
problems in communication. Unintended meanings may have been attributed to some terms.

If I gave offence in this regard, then I apologize.

At any rate, this is still an interesting place to wile away a few hours every week, on boxing and other topics.

'ESB addict' is not always a figure of speech

    The place can be addictive.

Perhaps we'll revisit the infamous 25 year thread in a year's time, if we're both still on here.

    Then again, maybe not.

    See you around, laddie !

    Keep on postin' !

    Of course not.

But since ESB has so many latino members, who knows what this poll will show.

JMM actually stopping Casa first time in his career can't hurt JMM's shout to become P4P no 2.

For me JMM and Pac are clearly the top two at the moment. That was awesome from Marquez.

This is the 1st time I've been on since Marquez moved up and dealt The Ring lightweight champion the 1st stoppage defeat of his career.

    In all fairness:

    JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ: POUND-FOR-POUND NO.2

A fight between him and Pacquiao MUST happen soon to decide who is the rightful world number 1!

Does Marquez really need to beat him for a third time only to get robbed?

I think Marquez as p4p #1 can be justified. Only however if we realise that he actually beat Pacquiao, and thus Pacquiao's resume and recent results is inflated and he should be demoted to 3.

How can he be PFP #2 when he is not the definitive #2 at lightweight?

He is The Ring champion at lightweight and ranked no1 at super-featherweight.

Also, your point fundamentally does not make sense. When the no1 fighter in a division moves up a weight division, until he fights in that division and proves himself, he can't be ranked no1 there too. However, that should not affect his pound-for-pound rating - otherwise every time the p4p#1 moved up a division, he would then be replaced as p4p#1.

For instance, Floyd Mayweather was p4p#1 when he fought Carlos Baldomir in 2006, but Baldomir was no.1 welterweight. Should Mayweather have lost his p4p#1 when he moved up to welterweight the previous year because Baldomir had the welterweight belts?

    Pretty obviously not.
