If JMM beats Casamayor while Calzaghe beats up a faded legend, should JMM jump to #2?

I would say yes. Calzaghe should really have fought Pavlick.

If Calzaghe had fought and beat Pavlick convincingly then he arguably goes to number 1 but beating up RJJ does nothing to enhance his standing at this stage.

The shot casamayor who got outpointed and stole the title against Santa Cruz and scraped past Katsidis? Not that impressive an opponent to go above Joe imo (if you have JC #2 and JMM #3).
Probably more dangerous than the current RJJ though (the casa vs santa cruz was terrible) but not enough to move him up.

I recently rewatched the JMM PAC 2 fight. I scored it for JMM if there was a third fight and JMM won I would have him p4p #1.
Even if Joe then beat Pav and JMM beat PAC I would probably put JMM #1 depending on how shot Joe is when fighting Pav.
JMM is a very impressive fighter and has been unlucky recently. Do you think Pac is running scared from him or just looking for better money? i.e. Oscar, Hatton.

Well, Casamayor isn't very young himself.

JMM fighting Casa is nullified by Calzaghe fighting Roy. IMO Roy and Casa are about in the same boat.

    It really depends.

I mean I fully expect Joe to have an easy time againt a shot RJJ in their fight and expect JMM to comfortably win in a tough competitive match against Casa who IMO is still dangerous. But there's alot of probabilities that may happen in both fights that its very hard to have a sure shot answer. For example:

Scenario 1: If Joe, for some reason, has trouble with RJJ and JMM wins as I expected(in a tough bout). Then I'll move JMM to the #2 spot with Joe relegated to #3.

Scenario 2: If Joe has an easy time against RJJ. Then he stays at #2. Unless...

Scenario 3 is to happen: Whereby Joe has an easy time against RJJ, but JMM performs BETTER than I expected him to and actually takes Casa to school. If that happens, I would put JMM at #2(might even have a claim at p4p #1) with Joe relegated to #3.

Roy Jones is a faded legend, but Casa is a faded non-legend.

Anyways right now i expect to push up JMM to #2 because I believe that Calzaghe is no longer as dedicated to the sport as he was 1 or 2 years ago and imo it will start showing in the ring more and more.

JMM still seems passionate about boxing and training

Am I the only one who's starting to see a pattern in your posts and threads ?

And am I the only one who sees the irony in a demonstrated Calzaghe -basher (pressing and persistent basher at that) commenting on 'fanboys' ?

JMM will beat Casa and then Pac. That is if Pac gets in the ring with him and he doesnt stumble accross Hatton or DLH.

JMM could very well be the best fighter in the world right now but nobody has given him a chance to prove it. Now that he moved into a great division with alot of talent and he can handle the transition ok then i expect him to become #1.
He is old but he can get there and then happily retire with his HOF career.

JMM is a great and talented boxer. He has more raw talent than Pac.

Could he be the best fighter in the world right now?

    No.

He's had two recent chances to defeat Pac and came up short twice.

I happen to believe Pac won both fights, but they were both very close. Even if you think JMM won, you must concede that he at least left doubt.

And that is not indicative of being the best fighter in the world.

Well Pac left a doubt to then right?^
How is it that the best fighter in the world can barely get by someone and then fight a stiff and still be on top while JMM okay also left a doubt but instead of fighting a nobody he goes on to challenge the number 1 guy in the division just so he can force the #1 p4p fighter in the ring.

Im telling you JMM beats Casa and then Pac after that.
Why wouldnt he be #1 after that??
That scenario i just described is very possible.

If JMM beats Casa then beats Pac then there's no doubt in my mind that JMM should be #1. It is very possible I agree.

But its also very possible that JMM beats Casa but loses to Pac. Their 2 fights where absolute classics but left alot of doubt from both fighters. Those fights didn't decide who the better fighter was.

He HAD a chance to prove it, at least twice, and as I said, came up short.

IF, he beats Casa AND Pac. then he's certainly in contention, depending on whether Floyd is fighting and what Joe does in the interim.

    Is it possible ?

    Definitely.

Is he the current #1 ?

    Definitely not.
