IF JMM beats PBF, would he be the number one boxer out there ?

IF JMM pulls off the huge upset (and it would be as big or bigger than Pac's upset of Oscar), where would that place him in the RING rankings ?

    Should he be # 1 ?

I think JMM would still be #2 because 1- Officially he lost to PAC (who is #1) 2- PBF might have been rusty for his 1.5 years of lay off.

A win against PBF will warrant a 3rd big fight against PAC.

    Neither do I.

That's why I avoided the term.

But I was wondering where those who debate such matters would place JMM.

That doesn't count for a whole lot.

Taylor beat BHop (TWICE !) and he's not mentioned in their list, while Bernard is near the top.

Never mind all this `officially` talk, we all know how incompetent/corrupt those fat *******s are... Marquez beat Pacquiao & thats that.
Pac is only ahead p4p because of the Hoya & Hatton fights, Mayweather is a class above both those guys so if JMM beats Floyd, lay-off or not, he is without dispute IMO the best p4p fighter in the world.

It would be a very hard thing to think about. Pac and Marquez have been about as even h2h as you can get. While Pac has been on one of the biggest runs of recent history it would be very hard not to call Marquez the man if he pulled out the win. It also depends on how Floyd looks because before his retirement he looked on the slide to me.

I would say yes. If not one then definitely #2. But beating a bigger man in a new weight class and that man happens to be FLoyd Jr.....I say yeah for sure.

First off the p4p title is really aubjective. I hate the way that people act like this is some official title. so if your opinion is that JMM is #1 I don't see how someone can really argue that. I'd say if JMM beat Floyd (which I doubt) and pacman beats Cotto, there is no reason that they can't have a third mega fight to settle the score once and for all.

in my eyes he still needs to beat pac to be #1. if he beats mayweather it makes more sense to crown him #1 rather than manny after beating hatton and DLH, but i don't think it's quite enough. especially if manny beats cotto. imo, marquez would still need to beat pac to be #1.
