Do you think he can become elite in that division?

If yes, what top fighters do you think he can beat?

EDIT: If he's able to pick up a few quality wins at 140 how much will it enhance his legacy in your opinion?

  2. He has a great chance vs anybody except khan in my opinion. He would school alexander
(look what kotelnik did) he beats kotelnik, has a good shot vs bradley, beats judah, I think he loses to ortiz but he is moving to 147 so it dont count, maidana, marquez either beats him or gets stopped, I think maidana might be to big for him at this point.
Khan at 140 is a bad style match up and he would lose a one sided ud.

I don't see JMM beating Khan, Bradley, Ortiz, or Maidana. Maybe Alexander.

he edges all in terms of skills. it's power and in khan's case, speed, that he won't be able to handle.

Depends, How soon & How many fights?
If He goes into a fight Vs. say The Bradley Vs. Alexander winner, IMO 50/50
(That is he he gets passed a motivated Morales)

JJM would make big buck if he can top the 140 but I don't see it happening. He's going to need more than a cup of pee if he wants to clean up the 140.

Juan Manuel Marquez ( This guy is hard work, skill, power, technique and heart rolled into 1 PLUS he is D LOCK II.. He unlocks fighters second to Floyd Mayweather, Like Mayweather he has 1 opponent that has givin him problems.. and that opponent is not Pac.. its Chris John, John is Marquez one problem.. if they remached in the states Marquez wins the rematch.. Say what you want.. the only time this guy look out matched were Round 1 of the first fight with Pac... and the fight with Mayweather.. He fought Pac to a Draw in that first fight (D LOCK) and look bad against D LOCK #1 other than that..close fights.. heading to the Hall of Fame..I respect his work wish he would have fought Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Moralas in thier primes... but inthe end he will come out to be better than them both...

Marquez gets by Kahn because he walks through some of Kahns firepower then unlocks him and catches him on that glass fiberglass jaw.. Probably DA goes the distants with Marquez but i can see an Split Dec going either way.... for some reason I have a feeling that Tim Bradley gives him trouble.. ( sorry I can't explain why..Tim Bradley is painful for me to watch his style is not my cup of tea..) and suprisingly maybe even Judah.. but the Judah vs Marquez is the best fight outof the 140 crop followed by Kahn, DA, Tim Bradley.. didn't mention Ortiz, Marcos, Peterson or Kotelnik because (Ortiz is still broken from his loss) ( Marcos blue print is out thanks to Kahn (Body work) ) (Peterson is a B+ fighter and would be on the canvas early and often by Marquez) Kotlelnik i think just gets unlock by the locksmith Marquez and gets KO'ed or UD...

ofcourse he can, at the moment if he moved to 140 he would be the only proven elite fighter there. alexander, bradley, khan, maidana and ortiz are all talented in their own way, but they have not proved that they are elite fighters, their all good but at the end of this year we will know who is elite and who is not.

stylistically khan would be the only bad match up, but khan seems to have gone quiet on calling marquez out after his win over katsidis. the rest don't do anything that marquez hasn't seen, the fighter who I see as made for marquez is maidana, marquez has fought fighters like him all his career and stylistically marquez would look great if the fight was made. as their both at golden boy i think there is a big chance of this fight being made because marquez is ready to move up and maidana will see this as an opportunity to fight a great fighter.

As great as he is, JMM is unfortunately too small and too old to become an elite in that division. He can, however, have one or two good fights through careful matchmaking. Having seen what Kotelnik did to Alexander, I think JMM's best chance of being a 4-weight world champ will be against him.

 Are you suggesting Khan wants no part of JMM after the Katsidis fight? Maybe the fact that Khan was busy preparing for Maidana during that time, and JMM calling out Pacquiao before settling on Morales....told Khan that JMM won't be available anytime soon. Furthermore, Khan's been insisting on his next bout being in the UK - a place where JMM won't go.

I'm pretty certain that if Marquez called out Khan, he'll say yes.

look i'm not a khan hater, i'm just pointing out that after the mayweather fight khan couldn't stop talking about marquez. but after the katsidis fight he hasn't mentioned his name, he has probably realised marquez isn't washed up, which he may have thought after the mayweather fight. if marquez is going to make good money and assurances are made by golden boy that he won't get robbed if the fight goes ahead then i don't think he would have a problem fighting in the u.k, don't forget he has fought in indonesia in the past.

    its possible.

but you then think hes at an older age, there all young fresh fighters who are bigger than him, have more reach, have speed and power, are more natural 140s than him.

he could have some success, but not sure how he does agaisnt the top guys.

which leads me to think he doesnt do to well agiasnt welterweight manny, when he has to be 145 weigh in and 145 and bit more night of fight, him being slower this time and manny being faster, stronger and better techincally.

ide still like to see it happen though.

anyone notice how marquez has had work beating diaz and katsidis,small/same sized brawlers.

while manny has been dominating bigger brawlers.

marquez is still a golden boy fighter. he was never released from golden boy, arum told marquez if he wants to fight pacquiao then golden boy have to stay away from promoting the fight. marquez had a word with golden boy and they agreed to allow him to fight pacquiao without promoting it. marquez has moved on from pacquiao now and is going to discuss future opponents with schaefer in the next week.

what marquez showed in his fight against katsidis is that he still has all skills he had in his prime, he can still box from a distance, trade combinations, and of course pull the trigger and finish someone. the fact is that after the mayweather fight where marquez looked bad he wanted the fight, but since the katsidis KO khan has talked about every available fighter but marquez. khan understands that marquez has the skills to cause him problems, and he may not have the defensive skills to deal with them problems at this stage. marquez is the most accurate combination puncher in boxing, and with khans loose defence he may not be able to deal with that at this stage in his career.
