Very tough and good fight. 50-50ish, although I lean towards Toney

Lights out had some very heavy hands at that weight. And he was a great counter puncher. Don't underestimate Tony's defensive skills I believe they're better than Calzaghes. I don't think Joe's handspeed would trouble Toney as much as some of you believe. But personally I think this fight is up in the air. Would have been a ****ing classic though!

Calzaghe wide UD, terrible style for Toney and very adaptable.

    Calzaghe UD (116-112 or 117-111)

His speed, movement, awkward angle shots, and workrate would spell trouble for Toney. Toney would find the hole with nice counter right hands, but in the end, Calzaghe has the perfect style to beat him.

Probably Calzaghe UD. I agree with brooklyn1550's post.

Toney would take some rounds on those right hands, but Calzaghe would adjust to it and change tactics, even if it meant using his footspeed to pop in and out and time straight lefts and jabs and ditching the combinations.

Toney doesn't like a good mover, could see Toney putting Calzaghe on his ass in one round also if he caught him totally flush, but then Calzaghe would go really safe and just outbox him.

calzaghe would win. toney is very slick but he doesn't move around the ring much. joe knows how to use the ring so he could stay outside and potshot james which would make toney frustrated and come in with the counter over head rights.

joe would get tagged a bit at first from toney's clever counter rights, but they get predictable quickly. and after adapting to kessler i realised joe is one of the best fighters out there for adapting.

james toney is a great inside fighter, and counter puncher provided the opponent wants to trade with him. but if they don't he is in trouble. roy jones won a shutout UD over toney by staying on the outside. and while roy had more physical talent than joe, i believe strongly that joe has more variety to his toolbox.

Toney vs Calzaghe would resemble Toney vs Jones. Toney is an in the pocket counterpuncher, and that is a ready made target for speed-freaks like Jones and Calzaghe. Toney could make it a tough fight but the end result is predictable.
